What is the largest rifle caliber allowed in Canada ?

I would like to know what is the largest rifle caliber that we can legally own and shoot in Canada ?

I suspect that it is well over the 50 BMG because Savage and Browning sell 12 ga slug bolt action with rifled barrels.

Exemptions have been granted for several cartridges which have a demonstrated sporting use, including the 12 gauge and some big bore rifles (.600 NE, etc.).

Canada apparently has no such restrictions

I think you need a .700 Nitro Express or maybe a .950 JDJ, or maybe you could use the freedom we have to shoot large bores and develope something that no american would ever be allowed to own. How does the 1.500 Canadian Express sound?

10ga limit is a hunting reg, not a firearm law. You can own shotguns of gauge larger than 10, just not hunt with them.

I think there's something in the Firearms Control Act of 1968 about the max being .50 caliber stateside but I'm not sure.

Never heard of any similar law in Canada. Don't think there is one.

Stood 10 feet from the shooter at a New Hampshire range a couple of years ago when a Westley Richards in .600 Nitro Express was fired.

The guy didn't offer me a chance to shoot it and I didn't ask.
