Yesterday morning, I decided to head out to our local sporting goods store to purchase my husband a MUCH DESERVED surprise gift. The gift of choice was a:
Ruger M-77 Hawkeye Ultralight .308. (16.5 inch barrel)... Natural wood with blued barrel....
I looked it over briefly (since a buddy had said it was just what the hubby was looking for) & said.. package it up.
Price was 799$ for the rifle & rings, but I asked that they change the rings for 1 1/4" instead of the 1" rings that were on it. This seemed to be no problem until I got to the cash.......... (he had slipped in some Leopold mounts pricing at 109$ each) ...
Also, I asked about amunition. I was shown ONLY the most expensive amunition. (Hornady - at 45$ a box) ... I then said... ummmmmmm don't you have any federal amunition? (which is what we use in our 30-06, our .243 etc, etc..... Then, the gentleman found the less expensive products. Well, then the box that the rifle came in seemed to be an issue... :( Since they have like 300 firearms, the clerk couldn't find the proper box. (so I was told)
Not a problem for me as long as I have the same guarantee right....... ?
Well, of course, I was leaving the store with no paperwork that normally comes with a new gun, no trigger lock etc... I didn't really care at that time because I was just excited about this gift since we are leaving Friday for our moose hunting trip, but well........

OK.......... SURPRISE! :D Gave the gift to the husband & he notices that the piece between the recoil pad & the stock is cracked right through. :bangHead:
S H OOOOOOT! No problem, I will take it back & find another....
I go back to the store this afternoon & show the crack to the man working behing the firearms counter & he says............. WELL, IT IS 2ND HAND!!
WHAT? You're kidding me right? I was sold a brand new gun yesterday morning & today it's second hand? :bangHead: :bangHead: :bangHead:
Ummmmmmmmmmm what is wrong with this picture? I'll tell ya what!!!
This store sold me a gun as NEW (knowing that it wasn't) & hoping (I imagine) that no one would notice until the 10 DAY STORE GUARNATEE was up, & then casually says.......... well, ya - what do you expect, it is 2nd hand. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Well........in the meantime during the day, I called around to other sporting good stores (no so local) and found not 1, not 2, but 3 other exact same rifles ..... All of which were asking approx. 825$. After telling them that I had pad 799$, all of them offerred to match the BAD STORE's price!
I don't know if it is because I am a lady & they tried to take advantage of me purposely, but for sure I was had!
LESSON LEARNED!!!!
Store is: PRONATURE in Granby, Quebec! BEWARE!
Thanks for reading...... ahhhhhhh feel better now!!! :)

wish my wife would have paid for my hawkeye. i don't she likes me that much. good to hear everything turned out ok though.

Sorry I don't understand, Surprize gift, But he told you what he wants down to the T? LOL

nothing like waiting til the last moment to get your moose gun. I got my lined up and cleaned ready to go for this season about the week after I got back from last season.

Read inside the parenthesis, especially the bold part :

(since a buddy had said it was just what the hubby was looking for)

A good wife knows how to do recon when she wants to spoil her man. My wife simply pretends not to listen, then suprises me.

great wife...lousy salesman!!! I'd contact a lawyer and make an example of this to publish in the local paper!! bet it wouldn't happen again.

I read your post a few times and I am not sure what the end conclusion was?
Did this rip off joint exchange the used for new or refund your money?
Was the original arse the manager/owner?
Did you get the opportunity to discuss this with the owner?
I am just curious if the lad sold you his rifle rather than a new one and hoping as you
suggested, is because you are a lady.
I just hate creeps like this.
Maybe Rick and his Lady should make some inquiries into this and let the owner know
what is disgusting staff are doing to his customers.
You're a peach............good on you for looking after your partner.
Looky.

The final outcome was:
As soon as I arrived at the store (gun in hand), I was directed to the back of the store by the snooty blond manager (who cashed me out the day I bought it). When I took the gun from the box & showed the guy at the firearms counter what the problem was, he immediately said.... well, it is used you know... GRRRR. Of course, I let my "b**ch" attitude slip out & he then blamed the error on the fact that the guy who sold it to me was a new employee & said that they would refund me 100%. You bet you will !
Ok, so let's say he was new... The manager who cased me out knew darned well, that if I didn't have the original box, that it must not be new. In fact, the code that she had to enter into her cash was a code used for 2nd hand guns.... So, someone (or both of them) knew too well what the story was. I was told that when they found the original box, they'd call me...... uh huh!! I believe that since the store offers only a 10 day $$$ reimbursement, they were hoping we'd head out into the bush for a week & when we got back, we'd only be able to exchange it. I haven't discussed it with the owner, however, that is my quest for the day today. Thanks for all the support!!

If the employee was so new he didn't know he was selling a used firearm then he shouldn't be selling firearms! That's no excuse if you ask me.
