So Sunday night was the last night for the early 10 day goose season here in Southern Ontario. Had a friend call me up and beg me to come out and hunt a property with him and a friend of his. I dropped what I was doing and headed out. On my way there he tells me he has several other guys coming to join us. I should have left immediately when I got there and his friend was passing out cans of beer (which no one actually drank thank god). On the way to the pond I had to remind the guy to watch his muzzle control as I ended up face to face with the muzzle more than a couple times... I set us all up so we were in a good location on the pond and I could keep an eye on the two of them and it was agreed that I would do the calling and also call the shots. At this point three more "friends" of his show up and I suggested they hunt the next pond over as I didn't want to get overcrowded or end up shooting towards each other. They moved on to the next pond and about 30 minutes later the wood ducks started flying pretty hot and heavy. I watched one clear the trees heading for the second pond and immdiately heard shooting from the other 3 guys... Ducks don't open for another week here  I managed to call in one goose all night and the new guy with us took a shot before it was within range despite our earlier agreement to have me call the shots. What a clusterf**k... Never again will I be in the field with these douchebags. A perfect example of why hunters get a bad name... GGGRrrrr.....

Before we go out we have an agreement on who's coming, who does the calling and who calls the shots.

No one in our crew would have the gall to bring along an extra person without first consulting with the rest of the crew.

Usually the "new guy" comes back to your spot later with others. Even if its private property. "Oh ya, I was invited here once, so I have permission to hunt here".

I like to hunt alone. I can not handle other people being stupid. I don't even like going with good friends and when I do I never take them to the places I go on my own.

It's a tough one. So many new people don't really know what hunting really is, and they can be such a PITA.

Why do so many of these new guys think hunters are all drinking while they hunt?

I hunt with the same person all the time. So far its been great. Lifes to short to hunt with idiots. I am not super competetive and dont care who shoots first either.

I have hunted alone most of my life. First with my Father, then YEARS alone, since coming to AB, I hunted with my sons part-time and full time alone. 4 years ago my GF decided that she did not like to be a hunting widow so she took her course, shot a doe, and has been my PT hunting partner ever since.
I coyote hunt with one guy, and that is the extent of my hunting partners.
That being said, my upcoming elk hunt is with 2 men I have never hunted with before and one of them has never hunted at all.

Tactical, at any time during this hunt did you ever confront the people you were with about it? That's usually the best way to have things run the way they should, if they don't want to include you in any future hunts because they think you are a prick for telling them to smarten up I am sure you wouldn't care (you weren't planning on going with them again anyway). If no one says anything to guys like this they will never change.

I did speak to the first guy that was there and I'm not sure he's a complete idiot, just poorly instructed and inexperienced. The 3 guys that showed up later left almost immediately and I didn';t want to say anything to them with the landowner present. Anyone who shoots at game out of season has lost my respect anyways.

I had a 20 guage sabotted slug fly directly over my head while deer hunting last year. That zzzziiipppppppp sound is one you don't soon forget. I hit the ground FAST, not like it woulda mattered but its instinctual I guess.

I have one good friend that hunts waterfowl. It's great when someone else is on the same page as you.
He can call ducks/geese and I have the trained retriever.

Please don't lump hunters in the same group.

I have had several buddies take me out for hunts. I always act appropriately and would never go back without being asked. In fact I have had a few guys tell me to go back for turkey hunts when they couldn't make it, probably because they know they can trust me.

It is unfortunate that a few idiots screw it up. Imagine what the non-hunters must think if we can't stand it.

I like hunting with other people and so far have had mostly good experiences. I go alone a fair amount too.

Had one guy who seemed alright until we actually saw game. We saw two does in the distance. I'm looking at them through the binos and he says "how far do you think they are" I say "oh around 500 yards." I'm still casually looking through my binos when BANG he tried to shoot them. I called him a dumbass and he said he was just seeing what his new gun could do. No hit of course. Later that day we are hunting on different pieces of the property when bang, bang, bang, bang rings out. I meet up with him 30 min or so later and he's looking around. I asked what happened and he said he saw a buck about 60 yards away and got off 4 shots before he hit the trees. I found blood, but very little of it. Looked for 2 hours (it got dark) for any sign of a blood trail or tracks (it had been very dry). Found nothing. Went back the next day and could not find ravens anywhere so called it a loss. What an idiot, missing a 60 yard shot and wounding game. Never hunted with him again.

My girlfriend likes to come out, but I find she gets cold too easy, or hates it when I leave her alone ect. So I only take her for a very casual day.

When you find a good partner I find it makes the experience 10x better.
