New CF Service Pistol

I could see them going with the Sig 250. It looks to have a lot of the features and highly modular. It has not been NATO fielded for 2 years to my knowledge but it would seem to come in at a decent price for the bean counters. Maybe past Sig usage will lead them in this direction?
For me I would buy HK P30L and be done with it.

Man, you'd hope they'd pay attention to the issues those things have had and stay away...but who knows.

Call me pessimistic, but with the new ranger rifle being looked at and the new 40mm launcher in the pipe (not to mention Leopard and LAV III updates) I think this will go onto the back burner as operations in Afghanistan have ceased and it is now a training mission.

Hopefully they have better luck with the handguns then they did with their light truck...

X2 there they should replace that POS before they get new pistols.

Which pistols are used by NATO?

THIS IS NOT COMPLETE NATO NATION LIST,
the ones not included is simply I cannot find information about it.

Popular handguns...
-H&K USP
-Glock 17

Age of pistol (when it was first release)

20-30 years range seem to be the biggest one

In terms of sheer number...

->Beretta M92 probably won because of the US Forces, French, and Italian are pretty large
->Glock 17& USP9 are probably second

Belgium, -Browning Hi Power
Canada, -Inglis Hi Power
Czech Republic, CZ-75
Denmark, -SIG P210
Estonia, -H&K USP
France, -Beretta M92/ PAMAS
Germany, -H&K USP (P8)
Greece, -H&K USP
Hungary, -H&K USP
Iceland, -Glock 17
Italy, -Beretta 92FS
Latvia, -Glock 17/19, H&K USP
Lithuania, -H&K USP, CZ-75

Netherlands, -Glock
Norway, -Glock
Poland, -WIST-94
Portugal, -SIG P228/H&K USP
Romania, Pistol md. 2000

Turkey, -ZIGANA T, C45
United Kingdom, SIG P226
United States. Beretta M92

the cf have been using sig for over 10yrs at least. I am surprised that some units for both regular and reserve are still using HP with 10rd mag. The government is ridiculous and cheap. Back to 2000 we had members from LdSH never been taught how to use hangguns while serving in Bosnia.

The SIGs have been limited issue for thsoe units/taskings requiring it, and the BHP is still the service standard. The mags are NOT 10 rd, they are 13...

you do realize that these pistols will NOT be produced by Colt Canada (unless they submit the bid winning pistol )...... the pistols will be produced by the winning manufacturer and a TDP will be supplied to Colt Canada so that in the case of a disruption in supply from the origional manufacturer, Canada will have a means of producing the pistols domestically.

When did that happen? I was in the British Army in the 1980s when Inglis-made HiPowers were the standard and the SAS started using Sig pistols instead. I had heard more recently that that Army was replacing and/or supplementing their stock of Inglis HiPowers with new production HiPowers from FN.

That is incorrect - The handguns, and also the bolt action rifle they are also procuring will be built by Colt Canada from day 01.

Also think of it logically, the manufacturer goes under or due to world issues / war is unable to supply > so Colt now has to produce. It would take them 6 months to a year to tool up for the production run. The government won't allow that kind of delay in production, nor would they waste money tooling up Colt Canada for that situation and at the same time purchase overseas/direct; when they can product at Colt with Canadian tools and Canadian labor

The Sig Sauer P226 DAK almost fits what they want. Only thing I can see being an issue is its 16 grams to heavy, the mag release is not ambidextrous, and I am not sure if the trigger pull is always the 6.5lbs.

I can see them eventually reducing some of the requirements from "required" to "preferred" after they realize how ridiculous the offer is and no one has an off the shelf option for them.

And as for Colt Canada making them, I can see them having to pay out quite a bit to get a License, and it will probably be quite restrictive.

just in the last few years i seen them packing 226s

AFAIK in they used to have fn hps late 80 and into the 90 but i might be wrong on that

If it's an outsider bidder that will fill the RFP, we could end up with any of 100 pistols. But if they follow through with some speculation (as said, but not quite said above) Diemaco would end up manufacturing the weapons via licensed production -- exactly with how the P35 and Inglis came to be.

I personally like the power and would love a new OTS. If Diemaco does end up in production, I'm sure we can kiss the poly frame options goodbye, as I'm sure I read "all parts to be manufactured..." somewhere in the previous week. Can't wait to hear more on all of this though.

The Britsih Army shooting team were using FN Hi-Powers as late as 2007. I didn't get the impression from the shooters I talked to that the guns were anything more than standard issue.

Take Care
