Do this at your own risk. It's easy to mess this up by taking off too much material or changing the angles ever so slightly.
Detailed tear down instructions for the USP are available at hkpro.com in the forum. Alot of the vets on the forum warn people about performing a detailed tear down because it can be easy mess things up by just doing this too. There are more than a few horror stories on the forum.
I've done a detailed tear down a number of times on my first USP and I'd have to agree. I won't be doing it again unless absolutely necessary or when I get to a really high round count and want to change parts or clean the really tough places. The field strip is sufficient. It does get easier the more you do it. I really recommend making a jig that keeps the gun upright. The jig doesn't need to look pretty, it just needs to hold the gun. I found the gun tends to rotate in a vice (I was weary about too much compression damaging the polymer frame). It took no time make a quick jig out of scrap wood laying about the garage. Use the dimensions of a magazine as a starting point and then shave off a bit more for some extra clearance.
I found the trigger return spring especially nasty. You'll have to be careful not to lauch it and I recall it's a b@tch to get back in.
