I just finished watching the movie "Defiance" with Daniel Craig on TV and was really impressed at authenticity of the guns. I saw all sorts of Mosin 91/30's, M-44's and 38's. Also they had PPSH's, Tokarev pistols and I spotted one SVT-40. They pretty much covered everything including MG's. The German stuff looked authentic too.

we supplied the Russians with Thompson's jurying the war.the surplus stores in St Petersburg all have them deactivated. for Russian war movies with lots of weapons try youtube. one good one is (come and see).

The best part is near the end when the boy is shooting the portrait of Hitler repeatedly with an SVT-40.

I saw that movie not long ago, with the Israeli's looking for the Nazi in East Germany, 'The Debt' is what it was called.

They get into a shoot out, every Russian guard was carrying and SKS, I was happy to notice that...

gaff, the US, supplied the Soviets with Thompsons. They also included them in the Sherman tanks as part of their equipmet. The Soviets, promptly took them out and put them into warehouses. They were sent the SMGs but little if any ammunition.

Their supply chains were thinly stretched as it was, without complicating it any more.

To Gaff

"Come and See" very good movie but what realy makes it exellent can not be translated. The first scene with the young guy cursing it is super.

SVT 40 was common battle fild pick up in the first months of the war esspecialy around Bialystok Bielovieza Forest area. That is the are where Bielski brothers operated.
Tuva Bielski was ex-army guy he new how to fight

"Battle of the Bulge": smallarms are mostly okay but ALL the tanks are American!

"Night of the Generals": smallarms okay but a Leyland Comet doing a stand-in for a Tiger.

"Kelly's Heroes": fun movie with lotsa REAL high-explosive and a Russian APC standing-in for a Tiger.

But you can learn a lot from watching movies..... some of them anyway. I learned that the Germans issued Willys-Overland Jeeps and had rapid-fire Brownings that ejected out the right side of the gun.

It's TRUE!!!

I saw it on "Rat Patrol"!!!!

But some are VERY good.

"Fifty-five Days of Peking": Charlton Heston and David Niven and a whole WHACK of Long Lee-Enfields standing-in for...... Long Lee-Enfields. And great big wooden crates labelled "Cartridges, SA Calibre .303" BALL". I want one! And when the Italians showed up, they were carrying CARCANOS, of all things!

And then there was "The Treasure of Pancho Villa", complete with a LEWIS GUN in the starring role..... and a bunch of humans whose names escape me.

It's fun!
.

That is the Forest where real action of the Movie took place, It is one of the only Primival Forests left in Europe home to Wisent Moose no bears left as of mid 1800s

i`d put a Sherman in a warehouse too. Facing Mk 3 Panzers and Panthers etc I`d rather be in a T34.

Back to guns featured in Defiance, let's not forget the 1895 Nagant Revolver that Bielski used to kill the collaborating police chief, the P38 that he shot the rebellious partisan with, or the TT33 that he gave to his wife.

Great movie with lots of interesting guns!
