So the news about T/C discontinuing the T/C R55 line hit me hard, as I always wanted to buy one but just never got around to do it. One because I keep on spending the cash on something else that are more justifiable to the wife because I already had 2 rimfires in the safe.

So now, finally after lying in wait for a T/C R55 to pop up for quite awhile, I was able to snatch one in decent shape for $500 shipped. I did have to sell my beloved Brno model 4 in excellent condition during the process though. But I think it's in good hands now.

So pictures first:

Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day for my first time out with the Benchmark, sunny with a bit of over cast, temperature around 24 degree C. And moderate wind. At CFB Borden.

1st target after sighting in the scope (Bushnell 4200 4-16X40)
All groupings were fired from a bench.

4th target (it says 5 because I messed up the order in which I shot the targets, so 4th and 6th target paper were blank)

The ruler in the pictures is metric and in centimeters.

First 3 targets are at 25m, and last 3 targets 50m.

All the 5 round groups are all shot pretty fast 1shot/sec-ish, as I was trying to go through 12 different kinds of ammo and get a general idea for which ammo it liked the best. So far, it's Eley target by a very noticeable margin. CCI mini mag comes in at 2nd place, and followed by American Eagle.

Obviously I'm not the best shot, being Air Force and all. I know for now, the gun with good ammo is more than accurate enough for my skill level. One day I may get the "A-gun", some day...

I need to try more premium 22LR ammo to know for sure.

I'm very impressed with the gun so far, there were 2 fte, both of which were with Winchester bulk ammo, one was 333, and the other Win Dynapoint GT. I'm guessing it might be too little powder in those 2 particular rounds that's causing the bolt to not go all the way back and crushing the empty casing.

So 2 fte out of over 200 rnds with 12 different kinds of ammo. I think that's not too bad.

Nice rifle. These can be a little fussy with ammo. You may find that eley target or sport will be your go to ammo. Smooth surfaced bullets will give you a lot less issues than ammo with serrated edges. The chambers on these rifles are quite tight and not all ammo feeds smoothly.

I have the same rifle with a Weaver T36 on it, it's great rifle .Try to get some SK Std+ ammo ,that's what my Benchmark likes and that's the only ammo I shoot now. I do all my shooting at 50yds from a bench with a front rest and rear bag

Wow nice Group! I need to find some SK Std+ ammo and try them out for sure! Thanks.

Nice score and looks like a great shooter.

Is yours a "Classic Benchmark" or a "R-55 Benchmark"? Some of the older Classic models are prone to chamber chipping. Thomson Center has a recall on those affected. The problem was corrected with the newer "R-55" version and the quickest way to determine between the two is the newer one will have "R-55" stamped on the top of the barrel near the receiver end.

If you have an older one, best to inspect the chamber for chipping in and around the extractor cut-out.

O... I think mine is the Classic Benchmark, I will have a look at the chamber for sure.

Mine is a newer R-55 Benchmark
BTW concerning the group shown ..I don't always get this result but when everything comes together and I do my part..this rifle will shoot amazing groups with the right ammo
