I was just watching "survivor man" and got to thinking, He always has his "multy-took". I wonder if he was allowed to always have one gun to help him survive, what gun would that be?

Jungles of the Amazon to the high arctic, what gun do you think would be most "convenient and most useful"?

At first I was thinking a .22 handgun and a pocket full of shell.

Then I thought that a 30/30 over 20 gauge combo gun would be better.

I don't think it would fit with him i've heard hes a pretty left wing guy (i could be wrong). But there have been a few episodes where he has had a gun.

I would vote for a .22 but he usually seems obsessed with not killing any animals. Even on his trip in the arctic, the gun he carried for protection from bears was a .223 if my memory is correct and seemed a pretty dubious choice for protection. He had 3 shells for it and used them to start a fire and warm himself. His attempts at fishing have also seemed doomed to failure on the shows where he has done that

cheers mooncoon

He did an episode where he was lost hunting twice. Once with a friend who got seperated and once in Temagami in the winter. In Temagami he had the buttstock hollowed out behind the buttpad full of survival tools. It was some bolt, but he never even used it.

In your home or in the wilderness there is no room for political correctness when your survival is at stake...period!

I recall when Allan Rock was doing the C-68 dance, an Indian Chief comment: put Allan Rock in the forest beside a tree with some fresh meat. See if the bear cares why he doesn't have a rifle.

The buttstock with survival was Labrador with the dogs. It was 22.

But I think the Duffy has it right. 30/30 over 20 gauge. You could still hollow the stock and store maybe 3 of each, plus a lighter or matches and fire starting material.

It was a Toz 78

There were at least three episodes where Les had a gun.

Arctic for polar bear defence.

The one where him and his buddy got "lost" so the OPP S & R team could find them

The episode where he took the dog team out.

In the episode where he and his hunting buddy got lost in Ontario (and S&R had a practice session finding them) he had a browning a-5 I believe. His buddy had a single shot 410 backpacker and a bow.

right about the hunting party 410 bacpacker and 12 g A-5, but the rifle for artic bear protection was if I remember a bolt 375 H&H Mag.

And surprise surprise. I was at a local outdoor store today. A Savage 24 V-C .223 over 20 gauge followed me home.

Still looking to replace the 30/30 over 12 gauge that I sold a couple of years ago. Anybody want to give up theirs?

Thought not.

Eh, even if he's a Lefty, and might not be fond of guns or hunting, I think he should be nominated for the Order of Canada. For going above and beyond the call of duty, risking his life many times, to educate Canadians how to survive. Certainly more worthy than some recipients, IMO.

Awarded for: The highest degree of merit, an outstanding level of talent and service, or an exceptional contribution to Canada and humanity.
