hi nutz

i own a baikal viking mp 446 by teapot and boyz, it chilzzzz. i am happy with it . but surfing on the net i came across a news that disturbed me preety well . it was about the barrel life of baikal viking mp 446 and it was laid down that the barrel/ service life of viking mp 446 is just 3500 to 4000 rounds

http://vitalykuzmin.net/?q=node/290

well . a robustly built pistol like mp 446 having sush a short service life is quite possible as it may be gimmic of its manufecturer to trap a customer first and than to make them purchase spare parts like barrels etc, but if it is true, i feel cheated. it is also learnt that baikal vikings are not going to be exported any more from mother russia due to some restrictions , hence no barrels.
shall be grateful if any one shares further info about these news with regard to baikal viking mp 446

Personally, I wouldn't have too much faith in the comments made by some guy... on some internet blog...

If you can afford the ammo to wear out a barrel on a MP446 (or any other centerfire handgun)... it<s safe to assume that you can afford to buy a new one...

well , had that been a blog of any old & so called country of " industerial world " in terms of cold war days, i didnt had paid any heed to that on the reason or presumption of being biased or having market or professional jelousy, but that blog and person both belongs to russia ,so it makes some sense at least to make me think and share it over here

keep in mind the barrel minimum guaranteed resource is stated for very hot +p+ cartridge and battle field conditions. We have members here on CGN who shot 4000+ rounds through their Vikings with no issues and no any noticeable wear.

There are no restriction on export of Viking pistols from Russia. There are no restrictions on import to Canada. There are restrictions on spare parts as they are dual purpose parts (Russian army pistol PY and civilian Viking) and controlled by Russian Ministry of Defense. However, we are working on this together with manufacturer and should have this resolved soon.

hmmmmm . it means there is an iota of truth in that news. dear teapot2 , if that is the situation , than theory of purpodefully weakened barrel may also have some elements of truth in it ?

+1 they are like that, something they cant get, or pay lot's of many for will always be better.

I guess what the guys was referring to is military standard for its life, which would seem odd to me too, if once wasnt told that expected life of AK on battle field is 3 days in full scale war by those standards, what that means is that after 3500 of that hot +p+ and then some 9mm ammo, it's "too worn" to be meat russian mil-spec to be a "deploydable" weapon, non the less it would still be used as a training gun, but when time come to go, they get you one out of the box. I more than sure your and mine :D Vike will be ok. Teapod, will you be willing to submit one Viking as a range gun to CSC in Calgary were it could prove it self to the people?

there have been some posts on some forums about some rental vikings being used on ranges in turkey and having crossed some incredible bullet marks. i wonder what to blv and what not. plus there is an essay available suggesting that if used with JHPs , viking"s slide get stuck due to lead accumulation which also puts a big question mark in my mind with regard to its relaibility. but such aricle is few years old and has any body any information about any up grade in the design of mp 446 to resolve that issue. i have been using FMJ in mine and it works flawlessly till yet

weel i shall have to dig deep down the internet, plz help finding them too. google is our friend . one thing i remember about that article that it was not in english originally, i red it through " translate this page "

why don't you just enjoy the time shooting that Viking of yours and share your own experience with us instead of digging crap written by people who can't even own or shoot a hand gun due to their state law? (e.g. Russians)

Teapod =)) russians can shoot hand guns if join the club, can directly own them it must not leave the club's property, though most non russian stuff is nearly impossible to get though
P.S. dont loose your temper on a troll ;), you'll need to deal with guy from Tula for GSh-18 ^^

Have you guy's read about the Russian service pistol (Yargin YPa somthing)on Wikipedia? It mentions that the russians use this crazy hot 9mm that is about as hot as a +P+. If you click the link to the MP-446 which is the Civilian version it mentions how the barrel has been weakened to prevent the use of the Russian Military crazy hot 9mm.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp446

So that guy is obviously a tool. He is Misinterpreting information.
