Ive been considering buying an M14 for a while. Unfortunately, due to our laws and my limited budget, a Norinco is my only option. I wouldnt me modding it at all, just shooting it at the range in its stock configuration. My question is, are they worth it? Is the quality somewhat decent? Do they shoot well? Would I just be better off buying an SVT-40?

Opinions please!
 
I picked up an older (wood stocked) M14 last year as my first rifle. I absolutely love it! I have never had a jam with it and that is using about every different type of 308 from MFS to Winchester.
They are reliable and easy to use. The sighting in process is simple.
Go for it!! You won't be disappointed!

Buy the norinco but the urge to mod is strong, you will resist for a while but most succumb and feel great after :)

$400-$500 semi in 308 its very decent IMHO
 
I succumbed to modding after about 6 months , the force was not very strong with this one .. except my inner whisperings were of the USGI taste , it hurt along the way but in the end im very happy with what i have .

My norc was also my first rifle , i got it a week after my PAL arrived in the mail .
 
You cant really go wrong. I bought mine fully intending to mod it.

We have Norc M14's on special at the moment, $399.95 with 2 mags. As to reloading, buy some factory ammo, keep the brass and reload. Either way keep the brass, you can always sell it.

Thanks for the opinions guys! Sounds like the verdict is a resounding yes. Ill probably be looking for one soon.

Chemist, are they wood or synthetic stocks?

Back in 1986, we could purchase all these USGI M14's that were surplus to our Israeli shooters for $ 399. Many people jumped on them and the rest is history. Today, we are experiencing this opportunity once again. Who knows what things will be like 20 years from now?

One thing is for sure, they are here, this is NOW and they are plentiful. Besides, I've not been run over by a school bus driver (yet) at my high school! :eek: Gotta keep spreading the M14 love :p

Now another question is, how does quality compare on newly imported ones vs. ones from 1,2,3 or 4 years ago?

Go for it. However, you WILL mod it. Trust me. These things happen naturally. It is a loud, obnoxious, ###y rifle and you won't find a better one. (for that price) I bought one a few months back and am finding myself looking for another one. Just so I can have two. lol
 
I can verify and would say if its in your taste get the desert camo type stock , pictures on the internet do not do it justice ,, i really wish i waited till those came out lol.
