Feeling unsure about my new Norinco M14S... advice?

you never saw the last of the ones that left springfield, did you- now those are just about one step above the norcs- they just barely passed the ig

Really? I don't see anyone on here complaining about the fit and finish of their SAI M1A. I don't see many complaints about their function either.

Because there is hardly any in the country and the ones that do come in are picked over pretty good before they are sold...go to an American m14 site, you will see that there is a lot of fit and finish problems...

Go there all the time. Don't see many. Anyway the point is the question was regarding a Norinco to which I think good answers were given. File off the sharp stuff and go shoot.

I'm going to buy one myself. Obviously I'm missing out on something. At the very least I'll have a receiver to start with.

He WAS talking about REAL m14 rifles from the REAL springfield armory.
Seafury, ... If you are on the U.S. Sites.... Check into Art Luppino's sections and research his comments on the M1A. He easily knows them better than anyone in canada. Based on his and other trusted and experienced US builders thoughts and comments, I'll never pay 2000.00 plus on any M1A
But let's not turn yet another thread into a M1A vs norinco thread, the argument IS dead.

Still, I am concerned about the rear sight. If that little welding job on the rear sight was to cover up a crack or something, I think I'd be better to send it back for another rifle.

A GOOD weld will be as strong or stronger than the receiver, and the Norc receivers are as strong as any M-14's, AFAIK.

However, if you aren't feeling confident about the quality of the weld, then by all means exchange it quick.

Edit: that said, PLEASE post a picture of the offending area with the "weld", many guys here know enough to tell you whether it's actually welding, or some other normal manufacturing process. And whether to worry about it or not. Just make sure it's a good picture, if it's out of focus it'll be useless to us!

I have 2 Norinco M14S I have bought in the last couple of years. One from Marstar and one from Epps. Both were good in fit and finish, though not excellent. For the price, I cannot complain. Norincos have gotten better over the years. I think yours may be an exception to the rule. I'd contact the place where you bought it, and talk with them. They may agree that all is not well.

I agree. I bought mine 6 months ago from theammosource and had no problems with it whatsoever. You should see if you can exchange it for a better specimen.
