Has anyone ventured over to Sweden to hunt any big game?

I have been offered to go over an have property to hunt on an a roof over my head, Im seriously thinking about goin over in Oct 2012 for the Moose season!

Seems the rules are very inviting for a foreign hunter.
Originally would of liked to go to Canada but its fairly expensive an hunting with a guide is almost compulsary.

I plan on taking my 35 whelen along for the trip an spending a good 3 weeks over there.

has anyone had experience over there?

I watched a show on moose hunting there. Not my style, hunting in blinds, lots of hunters in a small area. We definitly have more "remotness" it is expensive here though.
 
I guess its similar to American hunting, all i see is blind hunting an tree stand, but i know for a fact alot of guys do the real Stalking thing, which i believe is hunting..
I will definatley look into it, as i dont want to be in a high post, i want to be 1 on 1 with the beasts.
 
Can't say I would enjoy a big game hunt where there were hunters every couple of hundred yards. Like you suggest. The remoteness of our hunting and knowing you have a bit of solitude is worth more to me than the animal itself.

Lining up in an area with many other hunters.to maybe have a turn at shooting seems kind of pathetic. I'm not putting down that situation but I would not hunt at all if that was my only option. Save up a while longer and treat yourself to the full Canadian wilderness moose hunting experience. Even if it is once in your life it is worth it.
 
Northern Sweden, where a lot of the moose hunting is done, is very remote. They also use dogs (Jamthund) for putting the moose at bay.My understanding is that it's a pretty exciting hunt, having seen some videos. I know one fellow who has a dog team, they got 38 moose last year!

One thing to consider is that as far as trophy size goes, they are much smaller than North American moose.
 
Maybe you are all thinking of the TV show where Sako sponsored a hunt for some yank in Finland and hunting was kinda canned. Sweden may be different, if the hunt doesn't work out, you could just gauk at the women! I don't know if the Whelen will cut it, you may need some Euro gun, like Bob's 9.3 or some 6.5 of some sort....Ben
 
Haha Ben, Yeah im sure i need a Euro cal to get it done, those darn whelens just dont compare to a 9.3x62 LOL.

I just bought some of Kristoffer Clausens DVDs, thats going to ignite the flame..
He hunt very legitamatly for Red deer, roe deer and moose.Although he is Norwegian.

From what i gather there is ALOT of land to hunt an as BearKilr said its very remote in the north.

also the "trophy" size, aka Antlers are not as big an amazing as the Canadian brothers but $3,000 V $10,000 is not worth the extra 30inches but thats just my opinion.
Of course if money was no issue i'd be straight back to BC!

Powder gun have you done any research as such into the hunting in Sweden, or just goin by one clip you seen one time.??

This is what I know as well. Sweden isn't exactly heavily populated so should be easy to have a chunk of land to yourself.
As a kid we had a couple Norweigan elkhounds and one of my dream hunts is to hunt moose with them.

Get on a plane and come to Newfoundland. Tons of moose. Heck there are 3 sets of tags in my family this year.

Sweden has 6 times the population density of Canada.

Less than half of this province is an island. People do talk funny here, that's true, but they talk stupid everywhere else. As for doing things 'arse up', its been my observation that, by far, most of that is done in Ontario, and to be more specific, in places like Toronto and Ottawa. :p

Which still doesn't equal a highly populated country. Like here, most of the population is found in a narrow band of the country's geography.

Aside from 3 major cities, most of the Sweden (almost the northern half) is as densely populated as northern ON or the interior of BC. Both of those areas offer *plenty* of hunting opportunities.
Regardless, there are plenty of guys on this site that have a great time every year hunting deer in southern ON where the population density (of humans ;)) is through the roof! :D

I seem to recall Newfoundland all voting for the previous anti gun dummies in ottawa, don't know what that has to do with Whelan's moose hunt in Sweden.

Since we do in fact have a Conservative MP from this province, I guess you recall wrong. I don't know what it has to do with moose hunting in Sweden either. You wanna tell us?
