Deal Guidelines for Buyer & Seller - Please Read

Excellent points, sure would make the ee a better place. The thing that bugs me the most is ads with no pics.

While I can't speak for all, I don't post pics simply because dial-up is my only option where I am.....sending and receiving pics is very painful to say the least. If someone is genuinely interested in the WTB, then I will gladly send pics off to an email addy....once again, if it annoys you in the EE, click the back button and move on......;)

This is entirely off topic but I thought I'd ask it here as opposed to brewing up a s**t storm.

Why are so many guys selling their pistols for the same price as I can buy one new?

They know you're new and they're just trying to piss you off, obviously. :p Seriously though, if you don't like the price just move on, it's not your problem.

I see it all the time, they may have an extra magazine or so but who is going to pay retail price for a used gun with obvious signs of wear, when you could purchase one new and only end up paying tax?

edit: example http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=652460

I have been quoted over $100 less than that for a brand new m&p 40. and most sites carry them for $700-$750 new

Seams to me the seller did the 'math' on that for you....mags, accessories and tax all add up. In some cases sellers take a considerable loss on stuff that has very little use. As indicated, if you don't like the price move along.....

Believe me I am moving along I'm not trying to haggle people down I was just curious what the idea is being listed a gun used for $800 when I can order a new one online for $630.

But I take it there is no logic behind it so I guess I'll just move along.

Good topic. Having an actual name and a phone contact in the correspondence is a nice courtesy.

Good to have these discussions every once in a while. Keeps us all informed.:)

I hate when people sell and dont have the decency to change the status of the ad from WTS to PLS Remove. EE Pistols & Revolvers has about 20 pgs with probably half that are dead ads.

Another thing that really drives me is when I get an offer for a $1000 gun by someone who says they only have $600 right now for whatever reason and if they would consider dropping to their "price range".

If you cant afford it maybe you should be looking at a Norinco or something cheaper and not wasting my time.

One thing that was missed ...... the vendor should accurately represent the article. If there is a problem or issue tell the prospective buyer.

Agree 100%. Best to understate the condition of your item rather than overstate it. I'm always leery of EE ads that either don't describe the condition of a gun at all or are very vague. Couple that with blurry pics and I'll generally move on.

On the topic of pics - it is nice for the ad to include good pictures, but I understand the dial-up issue plus this forum has got to be one of the worst for posting pictures. I'm sure that turns a few people off from posting pictures in thier ad. I frequent some powersports forums and almost all allow you to upload pics right from your computer when posting. It's a very simple and speedy process to attach pics to your post. CGN is definitely lacking in that department.

It's not an issue with getting it shipped.. Just sometimes it arrives before I bully my wife enough for her to give me the tracking numbers...

My priorites are getting the CFC side done getting it packed and shipped and making sure the buyer gets it and is happy...

Any of those fall off the table it's not a good thing on my part..

The other pieces are less important..
If it arrives and you aren't expecting it so quickly does that make you unhappy?
If it arrives when it should does that make you unhappy...

You can't control the post office, the tracking is crap and you can't start a trace.. So what good does the tracking number really do you other then to very roughly determine when in may arrive..

However if I don't ship on time
I don't pack it well
I don't call the CFC in good order those are all bad things.. that I should be kicked in the nuts for unless I have a decent reason.. IE We live in the sticks getting things to the post office is an hours drive the wife goes to town Tues, Thurs so we do shipping then..

Getting the tracking number soon after the package is shipped is very important to me.

It proves to me that a package has actually been shipped. It's not really about tracking the the package it's more about knowing something is on it's way.

If someone says to me "yeah, I shipped your package but I don't have the tracking number... maybe I'll get it to you in a few days." I would feel I'm being lied to, the package hasn't actually been shipped and maybe I'm being scammed.

Its not good when a buyer feels like he is being lied to by a seller.

What would happen if the package doesn't show up and the tracking number still hasn't been issued by the seller.

It wouldn't look good.

Get those tracking numbers out the day it's shipped, it will make the buyer feel better if there is ever any issue.

6. If you PM the seller to say "I'll take it", but then change your mind - send a PM and tell him you changed your mind. DON'T just go quiet and hide out hoping he goes away.

I agree with most that you posted, other than this one.

Here it is, corrected.

6. If you PM the seller to say "I'll take it", then you can not change your mind.
You have commited yourself to this purchase, and now it is yours.
Negative feedback will be given, so that everyone else knows to avoid dealing business with you.

I agree 100% BUT unfortunately it does happen, even if you say "you cannot". I won't make excuses for them, but maybe sometimes we need to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and let them back out gracefully without making a federal case out of it. People make mistakes, even you and me. Well me at least, possibly you really are perfect and were born that way.... ;)

Would be nice to have something like this as an "EE Standard Practices" so that if you make an offer on something, or are selling something, you could add to the deal "EES&P followed" so the other person knows that the other person is going to treat the transaction with respect, not jam out for a week or two.

Two things really tick me off - the first is, as above, the "I will take it" followed by silence - nuthin', nada, zip - no even the nuts to say 'sorry man, no can do. The second is the photo collector who wants more pics which, after you promptly send, doesn't ever respond. Guess in that case his Mom has banned him from playing on the 'puter.

When you buy something off the EE, you're probably paying less than you'd pay a retailer... so why does everyone expect service that's superior to that which you would receive from a retailer?

At a store, selling you things is their business; it's all they do, every day. On the EE, you're dealing with people that lead regular lives, and have other #### to do besides holding your hand throughout the whole process. Is communication nice? Yes, undoubtedly, that's why I try to communicate well with my buyers and seller. But as long as you get what you paid for, and it's in the expected condition and delivered in a timely manner, I don't think any complaints really have a leg to stand on.

The EE is not a retail outlet, it's a classifieds section. Adjust your expectations accordingly, do your due diligence, and most will find they are rarely disappointed.

As an aside though, photo collectors and time-wasting, over-negotiating, question-filled buyers trying to horse trade and/or nickel and dime you to death need to stop being dicks when the item they've been asking about for days sells out from under them to some guy that just says; "Here's the cash, thanks."

I don't understand why people get so offended with offers. It's an offer if you don't accept just say no thanks.

I usually ask is the price firm. If they say yes I let it be. If they say no I make an offer. Most of the prices on the EE are out to lunch
