I bought an "active scrape" from the WILDLIFE RESEARCH CENTER. It's approved by the north american hunting club (they say they field tested it)
It comes with a camo dripping bladder, a 4 fl oz scrape scent bottle and a user's guide. Have any of you tried this product before? Is it worth it? Any other tips on making your own scrapes?

There is no magic formula for killing deer... you can buy all the scents and gadgets you can find... they are all guaranteed :?
You have to spend time in the bush and learn the habits and highways of the deer in the area you are hunting
If you are relying specifically on something other than skill and knowledge to fill your deer tags you are just rolling the dice
That said... many scent products do work and just about any strange smell will cause a deer to investigate to a certain degree... if you put them in an area where deer are proliferent :|
I make my own mock scrapes and use a drip bottle with buck in the rut and doe in heat scents.... mixed  I will do this in an area where I know there is a buck working who is primarily nocturnal... the drip bottle works with a change in temp and drips in the morning as the sun comes up
I have had some success with this set up :)

What is the "success" percentage, BR, compared to just knowing what you're doin'?
I don't understand the question Terrrence... This method will be as successful as the circumstances dictate and hunter knowledge will only raise your odds :?

Last week I watched 2 does with 2 fawns feeding in a field near our wack shack . A half hour before last light they ambled over to a scent pad we had put up last fall and each gave it a sniff . A bit later an 8-point did the same thing .
We haven't freshened up the scent pad this year , so that stuff must really linger .

Did the deer look to be putting thier noses or eyes on the brances near the scent pad?

I have tried it with no luck, I switched to code 9 - the tarsal gland which is now banned, and the code 9 synthetic doe urine , I shot a six point last yr
