Before anyone jumps down my throat, I went back to threads in August to see if anyone had anything concrete to say about the RFB. De Nada!

I already own a Tavor mated with an Elcan DR and I love the set-up. Unfortunately, can't use this set up for deer. So I'm serious about dropping $$ on an RFB and a .308 compatible Elcan DR.

So, to make a painfully long story jez a l'il bit longer, what's the verdict on an RFB? Any good? Do I buy one, or go hunting with my Marlin 30/30. Mind you, I could take my Rauched 858. But it's too long and unweildly.

I could go with my HKG3, but it weighs too much. Not to mention that it's illegal, though gawd knows why.

I could take my broomstick FNFAL, but would be limited by the same reasons stated for the HKG3.

I could take my 7mm Rem Mag bolt action, but that's way too much gun and ridiculously long as well.

I'd take my BRS-99 and settle for head shots, but Tactical Imports hasn't come thru with an 18.5" barrel as of yet.

I'd take my Uzi with a full-length barrel but that's prohibited as well. Where was I when they discussed/passed C-68, btw?

Jesus, I'm such a bragger. I should be banned. :redface:

But seriously now, do I drop $4k on this combo, or does the gun blow?
 
I've shot a few RFB's, and I was impressed. The trigger isn't too bad for a bullpup, it handles quite nicely, and feels much lighter than it is because of how the weight is distributed. If you have the cash, go for it. I know that I would if I had 4k sitting around. :D
 
From what I've read there seems to be a lot of trouble with bad mags. Other than that I've not seen to much of anything, maybe its because owners are to busy shooting them to write about them??
 
I have NO regrets in buying my RFB! Although the best I have done wrt accuracy is Norma Match, honest 1 inch groups... Most other ammo gives me 2 to 3 inch groups, keeping in mind that I find the RFB difficult to bench... If anyone has 'pet' RFB loads, hit my mailbox PLEASE!

I don't regret my RFB either...love the thing. Yes, getting good mags is great...other than that I'm a 2MOA guy (benched) with it. I'd buy it again.

Oh...I'm not a huge hunter, but I thought in Ontario, the main restriction for firearms on big game was no rimfire. I think .223 is still ok.

Not sure if that applies to the OP though since he's in Quebec.

Question. Whazzup with sellers like greeneytippy selling his RFB for a coupla $ more than a brand-spankin' new one? I just priced out a BNIB from Frontier at less than $2600 shipped. Yet Greeney is selling his used one for $2600 + shipping. Bloody strange. :confused:

What keeps me from buying one is the fact that it's a 3 to 4 moa rifle.
Some folks claim better than that, but I've yet to see a ten round group that is attractive looking, out of an rfb.
 
In handling it, I found it pretty heavy. Not what I would want in a deer rifle. I'd stick to the Marlin for that.

Now for a range toy, it is quite impressive, but I do most of my shooting off a bench, and firing .308 at 10-20m on the action range at my club is just silly if you ask me.

There are plenty of better options that you seem to already have for range toys, but if your just looking for something new with the ability to hunt deer, its a good choice.
 
It's a great little carbine. I can't wait for the strange looks i'll be getting at the deer camp this year. Best trigger of any of the bullpup style rifles I own, and plenty accurate for my purposes. Not a single regret with this purchase.
 
I love mine but I doubt very much that I would have bought one if the AR was non-restricted.

There are metric polymer FNFAL mags on the market in the states and will soon cross the 49th.
 
I just cant wait to go on my first deer hunt with mine! Here is what I say to the guys who say the rfb is not accurat, find the right ammo! Its as simple as that. From the 4 type of commercial ammo I have try it seems to like 168gr. bullet with fmj, silver tip and dislike leaded hunting ammo tip. I think the action is to violent for leaded tip. With walmart winchester silver tip 168gr I was able to do about a 1.5 to 1.75 on sand bag with a 3x sight. For hunting deer I am satisfied with that.

As for carring yes it a bit more heavy then some other hunting riffle at 8.1 lbs but look at the weight of other 308 tacticle semis and goul see the rfb is a featherweight. Not so much that its all that lighter but if feels a bit lighter then my 6.5 lbs cz 858 cause of the way its balence.

Second

At 27 inch long it head and shoulder above any other 308 you could find in manuvebilaty! And you should know that since you have a tavor.

Third

As of now mine is reliyable!

Is it a good hunthing gun, id say its one of the best choice. And me even if i payd more for mine cause its a ds edition I am super happy with it and would buy againe in a instent!

It is close to what I expected, but not exactly. I never expected the RFB to be a precision rifle, but I hoped that after extensive reloading I would get 5 round groups consistently 1.5 MOA or less. I would have kept it if I could but I had no such luck and being a precision guy at heart I sold the rifle. It would still make a good bush hunting rifle; I had hoped to make it my go to deer rifle, but on the flat prairies where longer shots are common it was just not good enough for me.

3 round groups mean nothing, 5 round groups are good, 10 round groups are best... keep that in mind when posting accuracy results. I hate nothing more than someone posting their 3 round group results.
 
Pros:

  • Bullpup, so short and well-balanced and looks uber-cool
  • Excellent trigger
  • Reliable up to this point - no malfunctions after roughly 300-400 rounds
  • seems to be pretty solid/robust
  • easy to strip for cleaning

Cons:

  • Heavy, but that's in part the rather heavy optic I have on it
  • Accuracy is nothing spectacular (though not bad), but I've been firing cheap ammo through it.
  • Mags are hard to find - I have only two
  • If it DOES malfunction, it's not so easy to see what went wrong...

Honestly, if I could buy a short-barreled FAL to take out into the woods, I'd probably sell the RFB... but I can't. Overall pretty happy with it :)
 
Every RFB I shot/handled (of 4) experienced problems within the first 10-15 rounds. Most were feed problems, some ejection problems.

The only real draw this gun has is that it is non-restricted. The XCR of bullpups.
