300 WM Powder

Right now I am using RE22 for my 300 win mag, but I don't want to continue due to it's cost. Is any one using IMR4350 or IMR7828? Does it work well?
I have a Winchester Model 70 with a 26 inch barrel and I would like to make the most of the long tube.
 
I've been using H4831sc in my 300wm w/ Barnes 200gr TTSX & Nosler 200gr AB. Have some 200gr NAB loaded with the new Hodgdon Superformance powder too, will test them in the next few days

if powder costs is a concern you may want to trade your 300wm in on a 30-30
 
I've had really good luck with H1000 and heavy bullets; especially the 220gr Nosler Partition.
 
I don't know how much of a difference there is, but if RE22(the best 300 WM powder IMHO) is $10 more per pound than whatever else you are going to use, that only adds about 10 cents to the cost of a round of reloaded Ammo.

7000 grains in a pound, 75 grains or so per round, 93 rounds per pound, $10 divided ny 93=10.7 cents.

Prices are creeping back toward sanity again,you shouldn't need to pay $40 anymore. Just useing WSS as an example the difference between Alliant and Hodgdon is only about a buck, and their prices usually aren't that hard to beat. I see a lot of low 30s for cannister prices, and usually get Hodgdon for $25 a pound in 8s.

I'm haveing my best long range results with H1000.
 
I'm used to buying IMR or Varget(for 223) and i buy at wholesale or cabelas. It's usually around 32 bucks. I bought Varget and RE22 in the USA a while ago and it was only 23 bucks. WOW! But, Iv'e heard that the Americans are taking this stuff away from Canadians who are trying to export it so i don't want to risk losing my purchases.

You mentioned WSS. What is that? I've never heard of it.

I agree. Really splitting hairs in my opinion especially as you'll need develop a load which may or may not work as well as what you have now and then you need to go back and have a bunch of another powder that you cannot use. If you're getting good results now, stick with it because you're not going to save a ton of money in the end, especially if you end up chasing the accuracy fairy! :50cal:

What bullet are you using in front of the H1000 Dogleg...I have a full can I haven't opened yet.
What 'long range', range are you referring to? I have a SIG SHR in .300WM that is pretty good out to 300 but I'd like to start extending that :D.

I've used IMR 4831 for years with 180 NPTs. When I rebuilt the rifle for LR I tried 4350, IMR 4831 and H4831, RL22, 7828 and am hoping to try RL25 (I have a pound, but no time for shooting). All this with either 210 Bergers or 208 AMax.
