Hi all,

I was not sure where to post this, so decided to write it here.
Moderators please feel free to move this to the appropriate section.

After reading all the threads for several hours, it seems to be that
the majority of members here really like Silverdale.
However, the same majority also doesn't like the 100+km driving from GTA.

Could someone on this board who knows the Silverdale owners suggest this
to them?

Suggestion: Weekend Shuttle Service
* Operate a shuttle from Silverdale range to Union Station downtown
Toronto.
- outbound: Sat Sun - 9am, 2pm leaves Union
- inbound: Sat Sun - 1pm, 6pm leaves Silverdale

Shuttle fee cost: round trip approx $15-25 ?
Need to make reservation 24 hrs in advance etc...

If Silverdale implements this....
I would probably go at least 1-2 a month easily, and my search for a
shooting range in GTA would be over. I have a feeling a lot of members
who don't like driving would like this idea too.

Maybe its illegal to carry firearms/ammunition in a shuttle / bus that is
not my own ... don't know.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I think you've got a good idea but I'd do it on a much smaller scale. Perhaps petition the owners of CGN to open a "Range Days" forum, where members of various locations could post that they're traveling from wherever city/mall/carpool lot to whatever range. Interested persons could then post that they'll join the pool. Gas split could be discussed (or posted by OP). Good way to meet similar-minded people in your own communities too.

I know in the Jeep "world" there's many coffee nights that don't include any 4x4'ing at all.

It's not illegal to carry firearms on a shuttle bus.

Here's the problem, how are people going to get to the shuttle bus. No parking around union station, can't legally carry firearms on the TTC.

Not being a ####, and just thinking honestly here, but the owners of Silverdale do pretty good as is. I doubt there would be much interest.

Lanz Shooting Supplies which is the store at Silverdale are sponsors here. PM them, as it is the owners daughter who takes care of their online stuff.

Your search for a range in the GTA I believe would stop at Silverdale.

Correct me if i'm wrong but there is no viable range around the GTA that offers the kind of facilities Silverdale does.

As for your idea and as previously mentioned getting to union would be a problem with firearms, that would be my biggest concern.

I think putting a ferry from toronto to st annes like they had a long time ago would be ideal but this would involve a lot more planning of course and something the club wouldn't be able to do.

Why bring Mohammed to the Mountain when you can build a Mountain closer to Mohammed?

What's needed is an new approved club closer to the GTA.

Are Ford and the new TO Council as anti-gun as Miller was?

It's not illegal to carry firearms on a shuttle bus.

It might be illegal to carry guns on any public transportation vehicles if McGuinty brings us our own version of Quebecs Bill 9 or the Anastasia Law as is rumored.

I can see McGuinty laying off 100 cops to finance the new infrastructure.

More Liberal logic.

Better get used to it. Premier Dad is back with us for at least another 2 years.

Land in the GTA would be cheap if it only cost an arm and a leg. Then you have noise regulations. I don't expect to see any new outdoor ranges anywhere near and as the subdivisions encroach on the ranges, they will start getting shut down. "I don't care you were here first, I paid good money for my house and I don't want a bunch of gun nut yahoos making noise every day." And it will fly because everybody will "think of the children."

Aint gonna happen

Silverdale is to busy to approach anything remotely similar to your dumb idea.

However your idea is very smart if you set it up - You can make much moolah !

Iffn you need a ride - pm me - their are Toronto car poolers .:)

Thanks for the feedback. Still brainstorming ...
If Union station won't work, Finch station will work. They have parking outside.
A lot of people from further up north park there to take the TTC to goto work during
the week. I know there are plenty of parking spots on the weekends.

Will contact the owners. Regardless how busy they are... I am giving them ideas
so they can make more $$$... no reason to completely ignore a naive suggestion :)

Just carpool. Prior to me moving away from the stinkhole, I had an open invitation to any GTA gunnut who wanted to go. A few people used to take me up on it. Gas would come to less than $15 for the round trip, so if you offer to split gas, I'm sure you can find somebody.

You can just go up to Jane and Finch. It's Canada's biggest restricted shooting range;)

I was thinking about the fully enclosed gun store + shooting club all rolled into one concept like the facility at Shooters Choice in Waterloo, Ontario which like it or not is the way of the future. It's a multi-lane range with retractable target trolleys which pretty well eliminates the danger of flyers, noise complaints and are much safer because there is no need for anyone to be down range. Out of sight, out of mind.

Open air ranges with lots of acreage like Galt are going the way of the Dodo as the GTA expands and the land gets more expensive and more attractive to developers.

For handguns ok, but not rifles.

Even the 200m at Silverdale is not enough for some!

There won't be any more open air ranges approved close to the GTA.

Better get one of those little cars that look like lunch boxes on wheels and gets 100 miles / gallon if you live in the city and want to shoot long range rifle:sniper:, skeet, trap or any of that stuff a lot.

To the OP :yingyang: , send me a PM anytime you want to head to Silverdale....:)

check go transit. I know they have new service from union to niagara but not sure how close they get to silverdale. just ask the driver he will probably drop you off right there or call go and request a stop to be put in there. thats what they do, get poeple to places with no service otherwise.

Not gonna happen unless you wanna walk for miles and miles.Even a cab ride from the arterial drop off point would be prohibitively expensive ;)

drive

Thanks a lot for the ride offers.
Actually, I do drive too. So getting to Silverdale is not too much of
a challenge if I really wanted to.
However, I prefer public transit or shuttle because I can use
that time to do some reading or get some work done.
I would gladly pay $ if I could safe that 2 hrs driving for something else.

Regards,

I think this is within the mandate of the "Events and Gatherings" forum. What you suggest already exists.

I've carpooled with another CGN member to Silverdale and it makes sense if you drive from Toronto or Mississauga. Take turns driving and it cuts down on vehicle wear and tear and gas bills.
