Today it was beautiful outside, so I grabbed my 4X scoped CZ 513 and headed out to some crown land.
Before long I spotted movement high up in the trees, estimated between 50 and 75 yards and the pictures show how it all ended.. ;)
The ammunition used was .22lr Winchester Subsonic HP, which is pleasant to use and gives off a loud "Plop" as it opens up nicely inside of game.

You plan on eatng the?

I have always been interested, and when I was out grouse hunting this weekend thought of poppin a few.

2 problems though.

- Only little red squirrels around.

- I wouldn't know what to do with em, as far as cookin?

Nice grey tails there. Cook em like a cottontail. Other then snapper turtle squirrel is the best meat in canada. (Red squirrels are protected). I like to roast them over an open fire on a stick just add bbq sauce. The thing is to skin them while they're warm

They are delicious !!! But not the red ones

I got them all over my back yard. I could get them with a pellet gun but they clean all the acorns off my lawn so they can stay...

if you have a trapping licence and access to some ones trapline you can trap them. I know my uncle gets several in his martin boxes every year. Furs not worth much though.

red squirrels are protected? I was reading the regs and thought red squirrel would be "fox" squirrel or is there a difference, if so I may have made an oopsie when I was out squirrel hunting

Red squirrels are very small, not much bigger than chipmunks. How you could mistake them for a Fox squirrel is beyond me. Fox squirrels are huge.

i didnt realise there was a difference I probably should have looked into it I never knew the fox squirrel was a different species....my mistake...guess im sol for squirrel hunting my area or do gray/black squirrels tend to live in the same areas as red squirrels?

Not that I have seen.

Usually where you find an abundance of one you won't see much of the other.

Round home there is tons of squirrels all around my home, but at the cottage I have never even seen a grey squirrel, only reds.

They're rats with furry tails. Eliminate them before they end up living in your shed/garage/attic. Very destructive little swine.
I've heard squirrel is tasty, but I wouldn't eat a city squirrel.

Agreed. There used to be a bounty on grey squirrels in the UK. They are an invasive, non-native species that is decimating the song-bird population due to their taste for eggs and ability to get into almost any nest not at the top of a smooth metal pole.

Shoot on sight! (Where local laws allow!)
