City-ots!

.....time to get a new hunting rig!

see can-downs got the right idea

Well I do agree with you

I am one of those southern Ontario guys that goes north to hunt moose but I'm certainly not from the city. I can say that (some of?) the "locals" can be less than hospitable in the north as well.

We setup our camp this year near the end of a logging road/trail - right on the old road. There was plenty of room on either side of our tent to get around with a vehicle if someone really wanted to drive the remaining 50 yards to the dead end. In fact, we parked one of our vehicles behind the tent. We setup at the end of the road because the land is too swampy in this area.

A group of "locals" came with their side-by-side and yelled and screamed at us, took pictures of our license plates and made veiled threats while holding their firearms. They told us they were calling the fish cops too. It was quite the welcoming committee. Funny - the fish cops didn't show up any of the 9 days we were there.

A bit of advise perhaps - you may find people easier to get along with when you are friendly and easy to get along with.

I agree that someone blocking a traveled road is not cool. However, just because you scouted an area that had sign doesn't mean someone can't camp there.

I've personally had it with "locals" that think that crown land is their area just because they live nearby and have hunted there for X number of years.

:welcome:

Dave sorry you got treated like that. We don't hate all non locals. Far from it. One of our buddies from Michigan is coming deer hunting with us this year and we are really looking forward to it. The first point was out of frustration more than saying "this is our turf". The bigger point was that the guy was a dumbass sleeping where the best sign was, far too close to it. He'll get skunked unless he wanders a few km afield. Everyone knows that.

As to the other donkeys....suggestions from friends so far have been a box of tin tacks for 4 flats late at night 50 miles from anywhere...borrow a grab chain from work and place the chain around the bumper and rip the bumper off then do the job properly and tow the trucks into the swamp on either side leaving a polite note apologizing for the damage when moving their stupidly illegally parked vehicle...shoot the tire out..lay on the horn until either they come out to move the truck or our truck runs low on gas...blah blah blah...you get the idea. Not MY ideas, just "helpful suggestions" from friends.

The final straw is the endless piles of garbage in the bush. Guess what, at least 15 people in this area bought a coffee at Timmies before coming hunting. We ALWAYS collect our trash and take it back to camp, always. Its not rocket science. Problem is that these dumb f***s think that they are entitled and that the garbage is no problem because they can't see it at the end of the week.

Guess I was brought up and not thrown up.

Simple point is that a) I am going armed with a camera and sending the evidence to the COs next time, and b) we hunt later next year. Maybe there won't be 15 guys running around on 4 wheelers with one tag between them, wondering why they haven't seen a moose.

I am going to keep this brief because the longer I think about it the crosser I get.

Short version - we went out for moose in an area we had been scouting for over a month.

First area - some donkey had parked a 32'-0 trailer 100'-0 from the best moose sign we had seen anywhere. He was too close to the spot and had no chance of getting anything in a rich area.

Second area - we get greeted by the sight of 2 half tons parked side by side blocking the effing road with maybe 3-4 kms of road to go with crown land on all sides.

Third area - Another donkey blocking another road. This time with a horse box and a half ton. "Are you locals?...Yep...Well we got two guys down there tracking a cow and calf." No response from us other than wondering if he had brought his own moose with him in the horse box and we just buggered off back to camp and blasted birdies for the weekend. This donkey was blocking maybe 20km more road with crown land on all sides.

We used to give the American hunters crap for treating the Northern Ontario bush like their own personal back yard, but the guys that still come up are on the whole great guys. These utter utter a**holes from Southern Ontario (Yes ussin bumpkins can read the stickers on your trucks and horse box and ussin bumpkins can read a map) block the damn public road leading to crown land off and then chuck their garbage all over the place. Clean up after yourself and if you know how a book operates then read up about access to crown land and interfering with another persons hunt.

What.would.you.have.done?

Did you do anything about this? Besides come on here and ##### about it. What they are doing is ILLEGAL, you can't blow roadways if you don't own the friggin land. Phone the MNR, police, have a talking with these asshats, tell him the move there truck or you will do it for them.

I wouldn't tolerate any of that bull####, if you just let them continue on doing what they did, they aren't going to change. Your a friggin local, grow some balls and tell how this stuff works.

Such a shame so many people are into hunting...come on its 2011!!! Why is it so popular still...we need to fix this!!!

This is the hunting forum... right... so just wtf are you talking about.... ..... but anyways.... I just got back from up north. I put up with all the other people... be it hunting, 4 wheeling, whatever, Its everybodys land to use.... but I really cannot believe the amount of crap people leave behind, I clean up what I can, but there always seems to be more...

ive been hunting the same crown land my grandfather hunted 50 yrs ago ! it is a rather large area somewhere in the area of 4000 acres my family has hunted this bush every year regardless of the number of moose or deer some years we would chase one animal all week our problem starts when the numbers of animals are high ! people driving roads bird hunting start seeing moose or deer and find out that it its all crown land think they have the right to start hunting there i beg to differ for 2 important reasons ETHICS and SAFETY my party knows where each other are at all times now you throw another ten guys in close proximiy who have no idea of the bush they are in and the fact that they dont know we are there nor do we know they are there it makes for some scary incedents . im a fortunate person to have this area to hunt but we stay there good years and bad years all you people who jump around to wherever the game numbers are high and set up camp not knowing or caring if anybody else hunts there can go screw yourselves.!!!

WOW...a guy from Durham claims 4,000 acres of crown land for himself

Seriously, I hunted the north for yrs. There's good & bad in locals & non-locals.
If a truck was blocking the road on purpose, I'd like to think I'd flatten a tire but paybacks a ##### better just report the number to CO.
Worse offenders I saw for leaving a mess was local natives, & we did report it to the wardens when they came thru.

Well thats not going to fly around here.

I have my favorite spots and if someone else happens to be there as well I guess they are going to be sharing the area.

Now blocking roads is not going to get you very far. I would be calling the CO to make a complaint. ;)

4000 acers or "private" crownland

Came upon a camp blocking a trail as you described a few years back that went into a large peninsula. We knew there was moose there (always is). They had it blocked so well you wouldnt know there was a trail behind the camp. We left camp extra early, parked a fair piece from their camp. We walked around the camp two hours before daylight while they were still sleeping I heard the camps generator start about an hour before shooting light... Long story short, we shot a bull, and cow before they even left camp...Very angry campers indeed...

I would tell them I want through before I would call a CO..

your no better than the guys that are blocking logging roads so no one else can get past. If you think your the only one to have the right to hunt that property because your grand father started to 50 years ago you are sadly mistaken. If you want it so bad that only you guys can hunt, go purchase it off the crown or find some private land to call your own. Don't think you own ANY crown land more then the next guy.

if you want to be away from people, get off logging roads, get far into the bush, bring a canoe. Where we go moose hunting we never see another hunter the entire week, because we spend a day bushwacking our way so far from logging roads we rarely even hear rifle shots. But that requires work, something most people don't want to do.

If you can't distinguish HUNTER ORANGE during hunting season, you have absolutely ZERO ####ing reason to be hunting. Seriously, before your incompetence kills someone! :stfun00b:
