OK, I'm convinced I NEED a.375H&H but, which one???

The Warne bases I have are a bit shorter than the QRW's, I can interchange my Warne or QRW scope rings between the bases right now I have Warne 2 piece nickle bases on my Marlin and the scope when on is mounted with QRW rings...

Shorter as in height? I'm looking at getting a set for my Featherweight and hoping that the front Warne base extends outside the screws, but it looks like the rear one does.

Shorter in length than my QRW's I'll have to dig a couple rifles out of the safe to see how much different.

Interesting. If the Warne bases are a little shorter out the front I may be able to mount my FXII 4x33mm a little lower and farther back (Weaver Low Top Mount rings) on a long action Win 70 FWT.

Otherwise I'll just go with the standard Warne low mount rings. There really isn't a wrong answer. :D

I am sorry if this has already been answered in this thread, but it got so far from the OP at one point I just couldn't read the whole thing.

For those who say the new Winchester Safari is made in Belgium. Does yours say "Made in Belgium" or did you just get the info off the web? I just called one of the stores where I buy guns, cause I knew they had at least one in .458 Win on display and had one of the guys check. He first assumed it was made in Japan, since Winchester belongs to the same company as Browning and most of their guns come from there, but I asked him to go and check. Nope, it says right on the left side of the action: Made in the USA, just like my new featherweight.

Now, I love my new featherweight, so I might still go for the Safari model anyways, if and when they get it in .375 H&H. However, if it had really been made in Belgium, I would have probably placed my order for it today. So, what say you? Is yours really stamped "Made in Belgium"?

they are made in the USA in a new plant in South carolina with some minor design changes.

The 'new' post-2008 Model 70 is referred to as the 'FN' mfg, mainly to differentiate it from the New Haven Conneticut made rifles.

FN Herstal owns Browning and the Winchester trademarks and designs.

Exactly! Thanks a lot for the quick answers guys. Mine is a featherweight and it is marked exactly like the one in the pics above, except of course featherweight. I know they are made in the new FN plant in the US, but that doesn't make them FN rifles from Belgium. The Belgium rifles used FN Magnum Mauser actions, which are some of the most sought after Mauser actions in history.

However, like I said before, I do like my featherweight very, very much. A lot more refined and smooth than all the Rugers I have checked at the stores for the last couple of years, and light years ahead of every single Remington I have laid my hands of for the last 8 years, at least.

I want a .375, so I'll wait and see if they finally get them locally, if not I'll go check the .458 they have at the store again and decide by that one, if I'm getting a Winchester or not. I might still end up with the Ruger African, if I have no other choice. I is indeed enticing at such a lower price. I just hate the Ruger safety lever, the Winchester is so much easier to disengage in a hurry while wearing gloves!

Hey badbrass, where did you get yours? How heavy is it, actually? My featherweight ended up weighing about half a pound more than the advertised weight. I am willing to go up to the advertised 9lb, but much more over that and it gets heavier than I am willing to accept.

Off this great CGN site in the EE, 10lbs with rings on, waiting for a scope to hit my mailbox! and then see what she can do.

Ouch! Thanks badbrass. That means once the scope is on and you add ammo and strap it'll be much heavier than my Garand! Except or course, it won't have anywhere near the same balance. That kind of sucks, because now the Ruger African is sounding a lot better to me. Oh well, we'll see...

Does anybody know if there's a larger aftermarket safety lever available for the Ruger?

Ah but the 10lbs helps in the recoil department, this rifle is nice to shoot, as the ruger is 7.75lbs, I think you are going to notice the recoil a bit more, but I'm no expert as I'm just getting to know this rifle and caliber! But I like it so far! I have always liked Winchester, and had no problems so far. And have owned a few Ruger rifles and handguns and they are well made firearms. It's all what you like and can handle.

My current moose hunting rifle is a Weatherby MK-V in .300 Wby, 9 1/4LB unloaded. I shoot either 180gr bullets at 3,300 fps or 200gr bullets just shy of 3,000 fps. I am expecting recoil of the .375 to be a little heavier but a little less snappy than my .300 Wby. However, recoil while shooting at a moose is not what scares me, lugging a boat ancor through the woods for a week and a half is.

I have handled the Winchester Safari, but in .458 Win. It is a VERY nice rifle, nicer than my Featherweight is, but I found it a bit too heavy and balanced towards the muzzle (a scope would change that balance, or course). Also, like I said, it was way nicer than the Rugers I've checked before. I am hoping the .375 will be a little lighter and better balanced, but I haven't found any locally so that I can handle it a little.

I have hunted with my Weatherby configured at 10.5 lb loaded and I know I can do it. But, even though I now get a little more recoil, I much prefer the 3/4 lb lighter rifle when hunting. I know at the range it's a completely different story, but I can handle 40 rounds of .300 Wby at the range just as well as 40 rounds with my Featherweight in .308. No problems on that regard.

If I can get the Winchester set up at 10 3/4 lb max, I'll go for it, otherwise it'll be a Ruger African for me. Fingers crossed!

Well it seems like you checked things out and know what's - what. And can handle lot more than I can :). Good luck with you search for your rifle

Gun Lover, where are you located?
I have a Mod. 70 in .375 H&H on order and was told it should be here in a couple weeks. Would be happy to let you check it out once it arrives.
I'm in Newmarket, Ont.
PM me if you'd like.

I am also In the market for a 375 bolt gun. Problem is I want one in left hand bolt. I see ruger has a left hand african in 375 ruger. Anything else in the same price range in a lefty bolt in either of the 375's
