While looking at the other thread about the .32 Special I thought I would ask the experts about my newly acquired gun. Give me your opinions, pro or con.

Do you really think it was reblued? I've known this gun for at least 30 years. It's 10 years older than me. It was my uncles I never did see him use it for hunting, he used a Remington 7600. My cousin and I shot a few rounds out of it but I never saw him use it.

It was bought by my cousins Grandfather, I don't think it had a box of bullets through it in the last 30 Yrs

That's a nice pre-64. I don't think it has been reblued or refinished. I'm not sure what the other posters are basing that on. I have one from 1955 that is in mint condition and the bluing looks the same. The wood seems to be aged and worn, I don't think it's been refinished. A very nice gun.

looking at the condition of the wood in comparison to the blueing, I would have guessed it had been reblued as well. A few bumps on the furniture should match the metal.

Anyways, looks good, 4-500ish, but would be more fun than the money you'd get for it.

Nice 94 but from the pics I would say refinished. In the first pic the metal appears slightly proud of the wood. At the forward end of the butt stock the wood is slightly rounded from improper sanding and the hammer looks to be "in the white" or polished, should be blued. Thirty years ago was only the early '70's, so it may have been done then.

Thanks for the replies. Looking at all the posts makes me think it may have been refinished at some point.

But the fact that it will stay in the family was the biggest part of acquiring the gun.

I hope to take it out a few times this deer season.

I will ask my aunt if she remembers it going to the gunsmith at some time in the past.

It most deffinately has been refinished(the wood for sure). It is a $300 gun at the most. Not much special about it as there are tonnes of these out there in the same condition.

Have fun shooting it, they are fun to shoot and are great deer guns

The biggest giveaway is that the screws holding the internal feed rails (see above loading gate) have been flattened off by polishing.

Almost always a sign of a reblued M.94.
