I can't f@*&ing believe this!!!

We paid for them, I think we should get a chance at them. A CMP program like in the US is a great idea.

But then again, I'm not thinking like canadian government.( I'm taking your money, and go f*ck yourself)

The math isn't right. Federal government math is much more complex and stupid than even the New math.

This government will tender bids for the disposal and end up paying some"buddies" *wink* business a few hundred G's to destroy something that most of us would gladly pay for!!

You forgot to factor the cost of the on site RCMP officers who will supervise the process and ensure ALL are safely transported and then sufficiently melted down.

It used to be a commissioned officer and a work party-no RCMP as this isn't their turf. The troops unloaded them and helped fling them into the smelter. The officer certified a document that he had witnessed them, by serial #, go into the fire.

The US has their CMP program... Canada needs something similar. Sell off the old CF and RCMP inventories to those of us who bought them in the first place.

That said, even the CMP seems to be running out of good quality rifles to sell.

I have to wonder why that is, when there are all kinds of Garands and Carbines over in Korea with a lot of taxpayers willing to import them. And that's just Korea!

It can't JUST be a few Hillary's and Obama's, can it ? We 're being disarmed so slowly that we don't seem to notice, but we are losing ground every day.

I think collecting Milsurp will be very different in about 10 years, if the NWO has it's way.

Next up... no "Grandfathering" of your collections... your kids will have to give them up immediately to the Man. Buy 'em back as a Toyota.

Ah, well... Forrest was right... life IS like a box of chocolates, you never know when you'll get a mouthfull of sh!t...

 I don't recall Forest using such language:confused:  :p

Letter sent to PM. Maybe others would like to do something similar:

Mr. Prime Minister,

I am saddened and upset that the Government plans to destroy an important piece of Canadian military history, rather than allow law-abiding Canadians to acquire it. I am speaking of the impending destruction of several thousand Browning Hi-Power handguns used by the Canadian military. As you are probably aware, this firearm has been proudly carried by our Canadian military men and women since World War II. Even its design has strong ties to Canadian history. Rather than allow bona fide, licensed Canadian gun owners and collectors to acquire these mementos, the military plans to destroy them, a misguided policy implemented by former Liberal governments to appease anti-gun fanatics.

Rather than destroy these important relics, I would suggest that they be sold to legitimate Canadian collectors and shooters, and that the funds collected, as well as those saved by not having to pay for their destruction, be totally donated to an established charitable group devoted to dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for our military personnel.

It is high time that the anti-gun community realize that mental illness, depression, and other social stressors are the real cause of suicide and of much domestic violence, and that firearms have nothing to do with it.

BRAVO ZULU, Papaclaude!
A better draughted letter than the one I sent out... gives a socialy responsable flavour to us mean old Gunnutz.

FOLKS!! I know it seems hopeless, but I read somewhere that 1 e-mail is counts as 500similar opinions, and that an actual letter counts as 5000 other, but silent, votes.

We owe ourselves and the following generations at least a modicum of resistance to this heavy-handed treatment of OUR PROPERTY and OUR HERITAGE.

Please write or e-mail the PM as well as your own MP.

When our patrician little Nero actually goes ahead and smelts down yet another Arrow, we can at least tell our kids that we tried.

Ok so on a technicality the RCMP are replaced by a NCO.....we are still paying for him/her to be there. I don't get it. We can buy everyone else's surplus but our own. Why?

I was allowed to buy these when a different country recently decided to surplus outdated firearms:

Why is a BHP or a No 4 any different?

Let me play Devil's Advocate for a moment......

If the pistols in Military Stores came on the market, the examples I have in my collection (and paid well for) would plummet in value, whereas the opposite would happen if the stockpiled pistols are destroyed .......

Naaaah .... Doesn't fly with me even when I look at it that way. I'd still rather see them come on the market than be smelted!

Two edged sword guys. Harper seems quite pro-gun himself. However he is also "tough on crime" and the image of him releasing thousands of handguns to the general public does not paint the prettiest political picture. I consider myself a fairly responsible gun owner, and I fullly believe that people are dangerous, not firearms. However Harper's likely crunching the numbers and in his politician mindset it really isn't worth the political backlash to save history.

I just hope they will save a few hundred to "please" the people who wrote the letters. I mean if the antis have a voice then so do we.

Hi folks, these browning - Hi-power are very badly worn, the upper receivers rattle on the rails. the barrels are worn badly. I have fired the brownings and the Sigsauers. the SIG is a cadillac compared to these.

The Inglis Brownings never were a precision shooting instrument. They were well made under wartime pressure and proved to be durable and reliable service pistols for many years. What was good enough for my father in 1945 was good enough for me and my son kind of thing.;)

Over the yrs the only real problems we found with them were worn mags and barrels. It really isn't practical to generate more new spares for them at this point. They have soldiered on for close to 70 yrs now, so they do require replacement. I only hope that they can find something with equal longevity and reliability.
