Mossberg shotguns, are they any good?

They are leaps and bounds over a nork. I like the 590 and 930 line. Pistol grips on a shotgun are nonsense. Good for packing but crap for aiming.

I have an 835 that has been utterly reliable so far and it does not get babied at all.

Three weeks ago I broke a chunk out of the forend by falling and slamming into a rock. Replacement part was in my hands 4 days later.

I would recommend Mossberg and I own an 870.

Well i just tried out my Mossberg 500 Mariner, and It worked awesome. Cycled way better then my 870 marine magnum. Awesome bang for the buck! I ran a box of #4 shot through her and she worked flawlessly.

Do you find any rotational "slop" with the pump action? Or is that the tightening you refer to in post #59?

love my 835 shoot about 100 rounds a week through it for the past couple months (target load) never had a prblem dropping it or throwing it around replaced the mag tube (my fault thought i could use plyers to get the original off) 45 bucks later new tube cheap part to fix, and the barrels to my understanding are alot cheaper to buy seperate than any rem.

I've been using Mossberg 500 variants for about twenty years and they have never failed me and I've never had a breakage.

I have found that they function more reliably than Remington 870's when both models are mistreated and not maintained at all.

They do have some "rotational slop" on the pump action as some have noted. So what? It affects nothing whatsoever, and the darn things just work, period.

As for those who automaticcally dismiss Mossbergs as being garbage, well, feel free to continue paying more than you have to for less reliable brands if you like. It's your money.
