Getting an upgraded follower.

What is the specific performance diffrence from the Vang Comp stainless follower as opposed to the S&J Follower?

The two also offer the over sized safeties. Is there a benefit from one to the other?

The stainless looks cooler, and will function better than the stock plastic follower while being vastly more durable. However there are some who say that a steel follower will eventually peen down the retainer "lip" on the inside of the mag tube.

The S&J will also function and hold up much better than a stock piece, and is cheaper than the Vang Comp, though it doesn't look quite as nice if that matters to you.

Not partial to stainless followers solely for the extra weight, no matter how little. Some say it causes galling. I say there isn't much contact with any other metal to create enough friction.

I'm set on the Scattergun oversize safety. Large enough to control comfortably. I don't like the S&J dome type under my finger. Feels bulky.

A bit of a write up in the shotgun forum. Give it a read. May help somewhat.

I use both the S&J parts. I own the Vang follower, but my gun has tube dimples, so I'd need to remove them to use it. I'm perfectly happy with the Delrin follower by S&J, and the jumbo safety. The Vang follow has a large hole in the centre that would allow debris out of the mag tube, that the S&J doesn't.

I'm a fan of the Vang Comp follower and my only real ##### is that they don't make one for the 20 gauge. I have the Vang Comp oversize domed safety on all 4 of my 870's, my 14" Norinco and both of my Model 58's - guess you could call me a fan.

In the interest of full disclosure I have never used the S&J follower...

easy.....I recall that write up, but it didnt come up on my search.

Ill most likely settle on the S&J parts, partially to keep it Canadian.

Thanks all.

Don't get me wrong, S&J makes great stuff that works reliably. For me preference is a creature of habit.

followers

The quality synthetic followers are superior IMO for 3 reasons.....

They are slippery and will feed smoother and resist getting fouled with dirt.

They are far more likely to conform to a dinged mag tube and or get dinged themselves, either which will affect or prevent feeding. The steel ones come to a screeching halt when the mag tube becomes out of round, even slightly.

They are typically bright colours and therefore highly visible...an obviously great feature.

Oh yeah...they are inexpensive which we all like!

I've used and have several different versions...SJ, Scattergun, Choate, etc.....
AVOID the oem Remington plastic versions....they are too thin and fragile and fall apart quickly.....Fawkin' late model Remington!!!!!....shame.

I don't know if it is the material or the shape of the follower that matters most. I have been using the same stock Remington cheap plastic follower in my 870 for almost two decades. I went with a S&J follower because it is of better quality, but the long tail design caused it to bind constantly on the joint where the mag extension attaches. It was unusable, thus back to the cheap Remington follower with no problems.

How long ago did you buy the follower, we have added a larger chamfer to the back edge of the follower as well as make the overall lenght just a bit shorter.
This has fixed the few issues that we have had with the followers.
With over 17k of them sold from. new zealand to iceland. All feadback is the issues are with bad QC on the shotguns.
But sometimes and it is few and far between, our follower will now work
