shotgun reloading components

I just bought a milk carton like thing full of bb's at walmart. Copper plated and all. I don't think theres much difference between the two.
And they have 9 more in stock if I need them!!

Steel shot and steel BBs are not interchangeable; don't mix them unless you're willing to risk your barrel. Steel shot is usually much softer than your airgun BBs.

Even if you get steel shot you need to use steel shot wads ! they are very different than lead shot wads. Being much ticker and a larger volume in the shot cup. It would be dangerous to load shot shells with steel shot and lead shot cup wads.

Damn. Even the copper coated ones?

The copper plating doesn't change the hardness of the steel BB it's coating. Steel shot is manufactured to a very specific hardness, as compared to steel BBs. While using steel BBs in the place of steel shot isn't dangerous, it'll likely damage your barrel.

Just curious but do you really go through enough steel to justify loading?

About $300/year. I miss lots :D

For 250 rounds:

wads - ~$30/250.
Powder - ~$25
Primers - minimum $10
Steel shot(if you can find it) will be around $40 for 25lbs; that's before shipping if you can't find it locally. At that price, it's about $28 for 250 1-1/8oz loads.

You're now in ~$90 for a flat of steel; this is assuming you can source all the components locally and you already have hulls. A flat of Remington hi-speed steel goes for $80-$90 around here. You won't save much(if any) over factory unless you're loading for fun...

I am getting these prices from ballistic products.
