IPSC Traditionalists

I shot SD all year with a STI Trogan 9mm. Set it up with FO front sight and a STI carry style magwell. Wilson ETM 10 rounders to feed it. Bladetech DOH to pack it around.

It worked very well. Fun and easy to shoot. I placed fairly well in the Qualifiers in the north shooting against guys shooting up to and including Edges and CZ TS's.

This is the rig I will be shooting in Classic next year. Reasonable cost to set it up, mags are reasonable, holsters are everywhere. This will be the working guys entry level IPSC division in my opinion.

I don't know if it is cheaper or not but the rules are a lot easier to understand and enforce.

You can buy pretty well any good quality 1911 and be good to go. Most of them will be competitive right out of the box.

Everything else you need is easily available and reasonably priced.

build a 40. If you get to the match and see that those extra 2 rounds will be a massive advantage, then just declare minor and top up your mags to 10 rounds
 
argh. I just read over the rules again...no rails! I wanted a cool rail thingy. LOL...
guess the trojan is looking better.

9mm or .40 cal? I have been trying to decide. The extra 2 rounds in minor would be nice but I drop points if I miss alpha. I see the top USPSA competitors shoot major. If the extra 2 minor rounds really mattered, more of them would be shooting minor.

Then again, on a 10 or 11 round course, no reloads assuming I don't miss. If the match directors are kind, short course will be 8-9 rounds or 12 rounds and make everyone reload.
 
USPSA has a max of 8 rounds required for any one shooting positions...so, an 8 round gun often gets you into and out of a shooting position. (vs. the IPSC rule of 9 rounds max per position...unless that has also changed?)

I don't remember there being a vote to let you speak for most the most of "us". The fact is a lot do, you may not, that doesn't mean you are the majority. Also with the next World Shoot being in Florida interest may grow quite dramatically.

Well....I guess I missed the other vote where YOU were elected to represent and speak for the 'most of us'.

As a matter of fact I would bet that Andrew is right on the money and the MAJORITY of IPSC shooters in Canada will never and have very little to zero interest in shooting IPSC in the US.
