Well Madness if you think 45 is PUSSY. Instead of 50Gi , I have a 445 revolver loaded with 300gr JSP & 42grains of AA 1680. Your welcome to TRY and shoot even a 20 round count stage with it.
Supermag

Another stupid arms race as it will turn out that all courses of fire now allow up to 12 rounds for a short , 24 for medium and 32 for long.
You can expect that with 40 or 45 you have absolutely no extra rounds in 8 round mags for 24 or 32 round stages, so now everyone will have to get at least a new top end in 9mm or similar.
A standing reload or two as will be needed often will be worse than the minor score with 10 rounds. Not to mention the ability to reload where wanted rather than just because you will be out of rounds.
I smell a new automatic revolver division???

I'm of the opinion that I'm more likely to miss the extra capacity than I'm likely to miss shooting major, so I'll be using my 9mm.

Absolutely, unless we see better course designs we will see a lot of 9mm SS guns being built. From talking to US GMs they are saying for the US SS Nationals they will run an 8 round gun because the courses of fire are designed around them, but at most area or sectional matches they find a minor gun is an advantage.

Like Madness said,...if there is a chance to see the stages ahead of time...show up with a .40, shoot major with 8rds or declare minor if the stages are 9rds from shooting positions.

That is what I have been thinking. With a .40, that would give me the option to declare major or minor (8 or 10 rounds). 9mm Luger/.38 Super minor only.

If you think having a couple fewer rounds in your mag is a huge disadvantage... Learn to hit better and master the mag change...
I hear the "capacity is king" argument too much...
It's a bit of a cop out... Me thinks.

You want "classic"..?

Make it stock, iron sighted .45acp 1911's and leather holsters.

Period.

you don't hear it too much in Canada....we all normally use 10rd mags. I agree about the holster.....but you are being unrealistic or naive if you think 1911's remain stock, or are "stock" to begin with....hence the huge market for aftermarket parts and tuning.

.45 acp ammo is neither cheap nor fun to get brass for...hence the favoring of .40. If I was planning on shooting 500-1000rds a year out of a 1911, I would probably go .45,..but on average shooting 3000+ major loaded ammo a year (at least),I will save a few dollars and go .40. (only because I shoot 4 times that or more of 9mm:p)

most of the people replying in this thread can do the odd mag change reasonably well.;)

I don't think it has a thing to do with hitting better or mastering a mag change.

It will be about stage design.

9 round shooting positions, with an 8 round gun.

Well I guess I lean towards the shooter overcoming the stage.
Not tailoring stages to fit with how many boolits a guy has in his mag.

I dunno... Whatever happens happens... We'll all still play.. And ##### ;-)
