looking for info on Remington 870 12GA rifled bore

I would be interested to learn from hunters who have experience with Remington 870 12Ga rifled bore. Would this be a reliable gun for bear hunting in Ontario? Moose? Buck?

I got from one hunter that shooting slugs is not reliable beyond the 50-60 yds, as the slug can drop 6" or more at 100 yds, and also the speed is not enough to guarantee the kill.

Much appreciated any insight shared in this direction.

With a fully rifled barrel you will be shooting sabot slugs which are running around
2000fps and only drop 6"-8" at 200 yards. A 300+ grain bullet will kill everything on your list very dead.

hey i see you are in mississauga. i just picked up my rem 870 (yet to fire it) but i have to say the best deal i have found is at LeBaron. i got the 870 with 3 barrels and 2 chokes for $534 and a $30 mail in rebate. i did get the last one in stock but they should be getting more soon, or call their other locations.
it came with the rifled bore you are asking about. something i noticed after buying it is the sabot slugs for the rifled bore are much more $ than rifled slugs for the smooth bore.
it wouldnt have change my mind for purchase, but it has made me consider different optics for the gun.
im going to run a scope on the rifled bore, and then get a saddle rail that bolts on to use a red dot with when im using the smooth bores. this way i can keep everything sighted in based on the barrels, and save a few bucks at the range. total cost will be $100 for the saddle and red dot, which ill make up within a few days at the range...plus other hunting will be nice to have the red dot for.
 
I've got a rifled barrel 870 express with rifle sights - very accurate guns and if you practice, they'll shoot where you aim. With a rifled slug barrel the gun is essentially a low pressure big game rifle. The slug will drop a bit, but nothing prohibitive, and it's still accurate.

Also, I shoot plain rifled slugs through my rifled barrel. It leaves plastic in the barrel, but if you don't mind cleaning it occasionally it'll save you a ton of money and is just as accurate as any saboted slugs I've tried. Depends if you want to spend $1/rd or $5/rd and how highly you value your time when cleaning the barrel :p

i was shooting the challenger slugs out of my rifled bore just the other day.
i was having major sighting in issues before i started using them, but once i got it on the paper i will say they are consistent rounds. i thought my barrel would be much dirtier with the amount that i put through it but it wasnt bat at all. you can see a lot of plastic in the slug because it is a clear shell.

my sighting in issue turned out to be due to bad mounting rings...the scope wont sit centered, its 2mm to the right...getting new rings in a couple hours, and hope this fixes the issue.
 
My Express with the 23 inch cantilever rifled barrel was topped with a Bushnell 1x28 red & green dot scope... I was hitting within 2 inches at 100 meters using Remington Accu-tip 3" sabot slugs! For smooth bore, I highly recommend Challenger rifled slugs.
