So I've been trying to round up some FAL-type parts for a rimfire clone build (yeah yeah, I know. I'm one of the too little too late folks). I don't know anything about them, just trying to get some info. I don't know the correct terminology, so bear with me.

As I understand it, I can get all except the receiver. Is the receiver by definition: the lower (that bolts up to the buttstock, pistol grip, etc); the upper (with bolt, housing, etc); or both? Any insight would be a big help, thanks in advance.

I hope this isn't a stupid question.

Nope not stupid. On an FAL the upper is the registerable part of the firearm, the lower is GTG without all the associated CFC bull####.

In the US it's pretty much the same. You can buy a complete (including barrel) FAL parts kit except for the upper receiver (BCG etc) without going through an FFL
