Hey, just looking around for some aftermarket parts for my 597vtr, if anyone knows some good shops, and some good parts. Please share.

Thanks

Jo Brook Firearms in Brandon, Manitoba. Definitely get a Volquartsen hammer (less than $50) and consider an extractor (about $22). The hammer takes about 2 minutes to install and will cut your trigger pull pressure in half. The extractor on the Remington is a punched part and tends to wear a bit while the VQ extractor is much better quality steel.

You might also go to Rimfirecentral.com and look at the Remington forum. It has a seperate 597 sub-forum.

One bit of advice. Forget the 10 INCH POUND tightening of the guide rods in the Remington Manual. Just tighten the guide rod screws finger tight so that they touch and maybe back them off 1/8 turn. If you tighten them too much, you will bow the guide rods, causing them to bind and slow down the bolt, thus causing malfunctions.

Jo Brook is a sponsoring Dealer here and a link for e-mails can be found in the Dealer's section below. They run a large gun/archery/hunting store, and I have found it it best to phone them ( 204-727-3552)
