Well I was at LeBaron to buy ammo -- Another impulse buy

MIM seems to do fine when a part is designed from the outset with it its use in in mind, or for parts that don't have to bear a lot of stress if that's not the case. However I wouldn't trust it in application where you have a very small part that's fairly highly stressed as is the case with an 870 extractor.

Well I'll have a forged extractor to toss in if/when the MIM part fails. $20 is cheap insurance.

You wont need it man. My 870 MM has hundreds of rounds through it. Probably over a thousand. Even hard to extract cheap winchester bulk pack and hundreds of 3" magnum slugs. I have never even had it apart other then when I installed a Knoxx Spec Ops on it. Never seen a patch or brush. Only oiled the bolt and slide bars and cleaned the outside. I would trust my life to it any day of the week. Even after it fell in sand and was dropped in a lake.

That is reassuring! I am quite happy with mine.

I hope I'm not violating any rules by sounding like a shill but LeBaron has a firearms sale up until October 31st; 15% off regularly priced guns. I was going to buy my first gun yesterday, but alas, it wasn't in stock. I'll tough it out and wait for the LGR to be scrapped so I can stay off the gun grabbers' radars.

Typical LeBaron ... "Vee don ave dat in stack". Shop elsewhere regardless.

I only buy rifles at LeBaron when they're on sale. They have good prices and a good selection. Very rarely did I encounter a model not in stock. However, I hear people complain about this. I think the real problem is that they sell alot of rifles and shotguns, and can only order so many in.

How's buying ammo from them, can I expect more security of my personal information than a piece of string attaching the binder, with a shopping list for the bad guys, to a counter?

I wouldn't know. I don't buy cheap ammo at big box stores. I once ended up with a flat of #4 Federal crap from WallyMart with several shells missing the shot component. I found this out during a 3 gun match.

They are competively priced, and never felt like my personal info was public knowledge. I much prefer the Markham location, but that's just me.

Maybe over a thousand??? Not even broken in yet - I have a 20 gauge 870 with at least 10K thru it and a couple of 12 ga models with WAY more than that.

You probably should clean it though - maximize your chances for success. Mine get torn down every 500 rds or so...

How do you miss that when you're checking your ammo beforehand, or even when loading???

Maybe by the weight difference, (must have been feeling strong that day), but how can you see through a closed, opaque hull that the shot is missing when you never expect such a thing to happen?

I haven't gotten burned too many times but I always give ammo at least a cursory inspection as I load it, prior to loading when shooting a match. All my HG ammo gets chamber-checked...

Its only a little over a year old though. And, you can clean a shot gun? lol. I am very anal about my firearms and clean them regularily and oil with high end oil but, a utility shotgun I wont waist my time on. Once I get an forend nut socket I will strip it down and give it a good cleaning but, for now, just oil on the bolt and slide bars.

Very nice gun. Not sure if you have seen that Van dam flick "Hard Target"
It's like a 1 hour commercial for your 870.
Thanks for the detailed pics.

Regards
Andrew

You don't need a forend nut socket to strip the gun down and clean it, just leave the forend attached to the pump and tear down the rest of the gun...
