Hi, I photocopied a cool article from a 1951 Popular Science magazine in PDF format called "How Good Are Russian Guns". I wanted to post the article here in the "red Rifles" section of Gunnutz. Can anybody tell me if there is a way I can share this PDF file with you here? Thanks.

I thought the article was good, and spent quite a bit of time looking through the rest of the magazine. Those were the days when I enjoyed Popular Science. All kinds of (somewhat) practical projects you could do at home, simple explanations, and examples of resourcefulness and ingenuity.

Very nice article! Thanks for sharing.

Russian weapons design philosophy worked well for them, works well enough for me. Sure worked well enough to beat the Nazis:D

I don't think Russians value life any less than we do. It was just the old communist regime that did that.

I know my grandfather REALLY liked the PPSh-41 he used for a time against its former owners in Korea during that timeframe.

Thanks, I enjoyed that.... Anytime I see old PM magazines at garage sales I grab 'em up.

My grandfather was a subscriber to Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and Mechanix Illustrated (early attempt at targeting the "urban market"?????) from the mid 50's until the mid 70's.

I spent many an hour in his basement going through the magazines, (being Finnish he never tossed out anything). What I really found interesting was the unbounded optimism that we had back in the 50's and 60's. Nuclear powered cars, and missions to outer planets were just a matter of time. We certainly have a different mindset now that the party is over, and the hangover and bill imminent.

Loved the article. I had to change my thinking not that long ago. Being of the old school I always looked down at the "clunky" Russian weapons. I bow my head in shame. I now love these practicle firearms for what they are. My Enfields will never take a back seat but they will sit side by side with the Russians.
