SR-22 Mods suggestions

Is that a Christies ext mag release?
I have one that came in a package from rimfire sports (RIP), but haven't installed.. how you like it?

Now you got me thinking Utah??????
It's not a Christies...their more of a pin style aren't they?
This one is a corrugated paddle type.
It actually may be a Ranch or a ProMag come to think of it???

Care to elaborate? What kind of things did you do to it to make it long range, and how long, is a long range sr22?

Im really taking in what you guys are discussing, thanks very much and the more anyone wants to add, the better.

Here's my SR. Its set up a bit different now though. I took off the full length side rails, put on a half length rail on left side only towards the front, put quarter rail on bottom for RVG, changed vertical grip to Magpul RVG, and removed Levang Comp. Just lightened it up a bit for grouse hunting.

Gotcha, I think I like the stock extended more than the christies, seems weak to me, mind you, I have never tried it.

Tachead, I like that fluted barrel.. never thought about upgrading the barrel on my SR until I see how good that looks!!
props

Please don't take this the wrong way but why would you buy side rails, @ my guess 100-200 bucks and then cover them up? The barrel cover is round to begin with....

Tachead that is a cool gun. I like the idea that you put a .920 16.5 barrel on there. Did the dlask 16.5 heavy barrel fit with the factory components as well? (forgive my lack of terminology!) I was looking at rimfiresports this morning (too bad we cant get parts from there) and came across a heavy 18 inch green mountain barrel that I would love to throw on the sr22 that I get.

Ive always been under the impression that the longer barrels give ya more accuracy long range. Not sure if thats true or not, but I dont think I would want to go to a shorter barrel.

The side rails are 50 dollars.
I find I can maneuver the front end better/faster with the rails on mine than without, regardless of rail panels/ladders or what. They do add a little weight.
As for Tachead, I'm willing to bet he mounts that flashlight on the left side rail for one

The rails were about $50 and the covers are to protect the rails when nothing is on them. And, as I said I only have a half length on the left and a quarter on the bottom now to keep the weight down.

Yep, a .920 barrel will fit fine but, you need to get a Dlask .920 barrel support block with it because the stock one is for the stock .750 barrel. And longer doesnt always mean more accurate. The machine work on the barrel is what matters like how the chamber, bore, rifling, is cut and how true everything is. Also, harmonics affect accuracy and a heavier barrel will always be stiffer and should therefore be more accurate. Barrel length will however, effect velocity. A 22lr starts to loose velocity somewhere between 14 and 16 inches. So, if you will be shooting far you will want all the velocity you can get.

Got it, just wondering cause the weight and extra cost. Funny thing, my friend got the rails from dlask and he side it was 200 for all four rails. Guess he got taking!!!!!!!

dlask has the side and bottom rails for $59, with the top for $109. You sure your buddy didn't get the short quad rail package? It would come close to $200.

just wondering were this came from? seeing ruger uses 20-24" barrels on there 77/22 and savage uses 21" barrels on 1 of there 22s and I use a 20" dlask on 1 1022 and get way better long range preformance out of it than any of my 16s, mind you I have never cronied any of them either :)

you have to relise that customizing these rimfires is what its about, there not mountain rifles and a 8-9 pound rifle is not uncommon especialy if your chasing the look of a sniper rifle or such which in reality weigh in at almost 30 pounds for a 50cal or chey tac M200 as for extra cost :) if you knew what Tachead had into that SR your piggy bank would have a heart attack ;) and firearms are the cheap part of fun in life (well for us) some of the toys around here hit 20K+ and alot ask WHY, I always answer "just for fun" no other reason ;)
remember the sr22 or nordic chasis/ NEA chasis are the AR15s of 22 rimfire world and beg to be customized and the 1022, a bone stock one should come with a tag on it that reads "remove from box, take barrel and stock off and throw away and enjoy" :D

my SR project:
the scope cap and fake suppressor are obviously not gun koted yet, the scope cap because the sports shop I got the scope from had lost it and gave me the scope for $40 :) the fake can based on a chey tac M200 scaled down to size by RA Customs (myself and my sons) dlask barrel, some internal goodies and a ace skeleton stock (just because everyone puts magpul adjustables on :D ) oh and of course the crayon trick :p

Wouldn't it be awkward trying to shoot with a scope like that for short range? Or even worse, shooting close range in a hurry.

I was talking with standard - high velocity regular ammo. I am not sure about hyper velocity stuff. People have done studies with their cronies. I hope to get one soon so I can do a similar study. They say it equalizes in the 14-16" area. Anything less and you will start to loose velocity due to insufficient time for the powder to burn and anything more and you will also loose velocity due to barrel friction.

I dont know how much I buy that, if there saying that in 2 inches you go from full powder burn to maximum preasure to losing preasure? I may buy 10 fps loss on average or something close but definetly no significant loss on fps to effect at 100-200 yards if anything losing 10 fps or there abouts vs. 4-6 inches of stabalization Ill take it, still be interesting to test it and see what a good average would be out of 3 different barrel lengths

Where'd you get the flutted barrel. I'm trying to knock some weight of my sr.22.

not sure what my camera was thinking but its not a fluted barrel honest, but you can get green mountain barrels fluted from bits of pieces in vancouver area and I beleive Jerry at Mystic presition can get fluted 1022 barrels as well

Are the green mountain barrels fairly good quality barrels? Decent for longer range accuracy? Compared to a Dlask? And is the ruger sr 22 really that heavy of a gun, that if ya swap, say the factory barrel, for a .920 heavy barrel, that its really a heavy gun?

Ive never really had an issue with weight before, but at the same time, I dont really know how heavy of a rifle I have shot before either.

there definetly heavy with a 920 barrel but for us we shot 3 position for years so used to 8-10lb rifles, green mountain in my opinion is just as good as dlask, if you do swap out to a new barrel get the .920 support block from dlask, I dont know its a key factor as mine with a huge fake can dosnt even rest on it but better safe than sorry
