Hello, now that I'm back in Ontario are there still caliber restrictions for hunting in certain areas here, I know it used to be 270 but I have heard from a few people that it has changed.

I'm looking at getting some new guns for Deer and Moose hunting for next year when I will finally have some time and am trying to figure out what caliber to get.

thanks.

Depends on where you hunt. I believe everything south of the French River is still under .270, north of that I'm not aware of any restrictions.

Incorrect. I live far south of the French and can use whatever the heck I want.

Anywho,

A person hunting small game may not carry or use a
rifle of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rifle, except a
muzzle-loading gun, in the geograhic areas of of Brant,
Chatham-Kent, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton,
Hamilton, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk,
Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo,
Wellington or York.

In terms of deer, you can either use a centre fire rifle or not. Their are no restrictions where their are rifle seasons. In much of Southern ON (think roughly Barrie and South) their are only shotgun seasons, thus you cant use any rifle. Typically in these same WMUs their are no bear or moose seasons, thus their are no laws governing calibre restrictions.
