OK here I go again, I have to much time on my hands these days. I want to build another rifle. Witch one would you build and why. (just to confuses me some more lol)

1) 7MM-08 Rem.

2) 7X57

3) 284 Win.

4) 280 Rem.

Yes I left out the magnum calibers because the don't interest me.

Looks like you're concentrating on the 7mm dia. My votes are for the 7mm-08 and 280 Remington. Why? I like and shoot the 7-08 and because I think the 280 is cool! Scientific hey?

I've owned and hunted with both. Not being a big guy I prefer the 7mm-08 Rem as I find the short action rifle much more compact. I've also chronographed lots of ammo and don't find you give up all that much with the 7mm-08 compared with the 280. I don't have an opinion on the other two calibers as I have no first hand experience with them. The 284 should be a good caliber but ammo and brass may be difficult to obtain. I can't see where the 7x57 offers much over the 7mm-08 other than nostalgia.

I'd go with a 7mm-08 cause I own two. Its easy to load for accuracy,
shoot well, and use for range and range time pays off for using it during hunting.

I think I would ask if it is a hunting rifle, target rifle, or? For long range shooting I would try a 280ai but for hunting only if the rifle you build will reliably feed. The 284 also looks very nice for a hunting rig, i prefer as much bag as I can handle when hunting, that being said I know a guy who hunts everything successfully with 7-08 that I reload for. What action are you building on?

:agree: very well put, my thoughts exactly!

.284 hands down. 7mm-08 length and .280 velocities.
I had mine shooting 140gr TTSX at 3000fps and shooting in the .3's consistent.
Killed some great animals.
