Ever buy a backup of your favourite rifle?

ya im left handed so i got 2 bps 1 wood 1synthetic got the synthetic because the wood was getting scratched plus it 8" shorter for deer. Haven't doubled a rifle yet but who knows it could happen

Nope. I don't need two rifles that do the same thing. In fact, all of my rifles fit a distinctly different niche and no two overlap in fit and function.

I have lots of duplication if chambering is considered, for example,I have 5 7x57's at the moment.

Not so much duplication of models of rifle,
although I do have identical Brno 21H's in 7x64 and 8x57JS.
And identical Sako Foresters in .243 and .308.
if asking about "other than rifles",
A matched pair of Browning Citori White Lightnings in .410 and 16 ga.
And a pair of Smith & Wesson K frame revolvers in .357 and .22RF
I had a set of Winchester model 12's in 12, 16, & 20 ga, but I sold the 2 smaller gauges.

Have you ever bought two similar or same rifles in order to spread the wear and tear between them? Or perhaps because you were worried they wouldn't be made for long?

Some folks own one rifle and hunt it their whole lives. However, mechanical things have a way of breaking, and your favourite rifle may not be in production when it breaks.

I am tempted to do this right now...I have bought & sold a lot a rifles, but one of the ones I've always kept is a Browning Micro Medallion A-Bolt in .308. It's my "old and trusty". Recently, I saw another for sale, identical to this one and see that it is still for sale, a month later...and the price is great!!!

I'm very tempted. ;)

Back up ? For sure ! I have to give the missus some reason for having two BP rifles, two shotguns ( or 5 ) , two deer guns etc.........:D

It would sure suck to be in the middle of a hunting season and have a rifle go down and not being able to just grab another off the rack and keep hunting. My experiences have been getting thing fixed can take a fairly long time around here. Especially when the nearest smith is a decent drive away. If a gun goes down during the season I can just tend to it over the long winter months.

Wow, i just forgot, I have two Ruger #1As in 7x57. Doh!

Took them both out to sight in for deer season today, one to use, one as a loaner...
