Mosins

I got a 1925 Mosin 91/30 Hex from Trade EX that they advertized as "Very good to excellent condition for $170. Turned out to be only a "good" condition rifle as the bore was dark with fouling and showed some wear, but no pitting. The wood was ok and showed some factory repairs to a split at the toe and sling slot on the butt.

I stripped off the old stock finish, re-stained the stock and sealed it with Home Hardware
clear sealer to keep it non-glare. The bluing was ok, except up near the muzzle were
the pig sticker was slid on and off, so I re-blued that part. Next came polishing the tool
marks from the bolt and fitting of a new bolt handle that I bought from Westrifle. These
are good bolt handles and easy to install, but should be TIG welded after to ensure a
permanent fix. I've installed a Huber stainless trigger and bedded the action to finish
'er up. It took more time to clean the bore on this rifle than it did to do all the rest of the
job! It payed off though, as the rifle now handles great and shoots "minute of deer heart"
at 100 yds. This will be my new stalking rifle for deer and black bear.

I feel that my next Mosin will come from Westrifle due to all the good feedback from y'all.

That looks real nice in a natural finish. The bolt looks awesome too. Seeing as your doing tasty mods, have you looked at the adjustable front sights made by Josh Smith in the states? I have a few sitting at my mailbox at the border, but haven't been able to get there to pick them up. I ordered a few regular ones and one green fibre-optic one.
I tend not to re-fin my surplus rifles, but your making me think that one of my Izhevsk refurbs might have to be ruined forever. :rey2 :D
Your rifle just looks like it would feel great to the touch. I'm doing the same to a Chinese SKS stock right now. I put on one coat of tung oil sealer and am contemplating following through with oil.

I have seen the Josh Smith sights and they are pretty cool, but I file my front sights to a thin, fine pin point then use a small hammer and brass drift to set my windage at the range before going hunting. The wood on mine is warm and smooth to the touch. The finish sanding was done with 400 grit paper so as not to remove the factory markings.
I still want to get a nice laminated 91/30 one day if I can find one as good as yours.
My local gunshop has a nice 1934 laminate, but it has the usual split repair in the toe of the stock. I see a lot of these split toe stocks around and it pisses me off.
Oh well the search continues.

Well my Westrifle Sniper Mosin arrived after a short 8 day trip across the country via Canada Post, exactly on schedule if I may add (I have yet to ever have a problem with Can Post ;) ). :dancingbanana: w:h:

After I took it out of the box, everything WAS very nicely secured inside. It actually threw me for a second as I am used to all accessories just in a bag loose in the box, and when I attempted to dump stuff out, nothing came out :sok2

Took me a little over 2 hours to get it fully clean (first time cleaning a cosmoline filled gun) and put back together. I had chosen the last Lamanite Sniper Mosin 91/30 that Westrifle had. I thought if I am going to spend this much money on a reproduction Russian Sniper, I may as well get the pretty one. :D I also picked the sniper version over a "stock" Mosin, as my greatest WWII hero was Vasily Zaytsev, a Russian hero of Stalingrad (LOOSELY portrayed in Enemy at the Gates, a favorite of mine as well)

Everything was just as I saw in the pictures on the website, and I am more then trilled about this easy flawless purchase! :cheers: to you westrifle_sks. Thanks for operating such a wonderful firearm shop in :canadaFlag:

Now on to my horrible pictures (small apartment, dark skies, and an iPhone 4 as a camera do not mix well. Will get some better pictures with a better camera tomorrow.)

Just got my newest mosin today from westrifle.... looks good (alot of cosmoline to deal with) Once upon a time I bought one from moreguns (yeah I learned..) Wow does my westrifle one make that one look like a p.o.s. !! well now that makes 2 91/30's, 1 polish m44, and an svt-40.... time to buy some bulk ammo!!..... anyways It was shipped quick, packaged very well and looks damn good to me............thanks westrifle....

maybe somebody could explain this to me-Westrifle has a crate of ammunition for $309 and a mosin for $100-but their''special''rifle/ammo combo is $444....what am I missing here?
 
Here's a question - what's the difference between Westrifle's $100 M-N and their $150 M-N? Has anyone dropped the extra scratch on the pricier rifles?

I assume there's a premium for rarer years and markings, yes? Is there any functional difference?

I just ordered 3 of them.

Two $100 rifles and one $150 rifle.

The $150 rifle was pre-war production and the $100 rifle was post war.

Asides that they were all in great shape, all matching numbers.

Whats the differences in tolerances like? accuracy?

Is the more expensive one better looking or something?XD
 
I've been sorting through them on the ol' interwebs, and Westrifle is selling round receiver, wartime rifles for $100 and round receiver, wartime rifles for $150, both Ishvesk production.

Could it be a bore issue? Hopefully Al can get us up to speed.

I haven't shot them yet, but from what I can see all the bores are close to mint, nice and shiny, nice rifling no pitting, and all the actions are nice and smooth.
