Hey guys im looking at some loading data to choose a powder to load with. I have the Modern reloading second edition book. When I compare the load data in the book with the chart that came with the dies and the info on alliants website everything is different. Starting grains, overall length everything. How the heck to I start with one load when every piece of information is different? I was comparing unique powder with a 230 grain lead bullet for 45 acp. What do I do? example on the chart that came with the dies its showing a 230grain lead bullet with a max load of 5.0 grains of unique and 1.190 min length, when i go to alliants website it shows it as 5.8 grains at 1.270 min length. This is pretty confusing. Also all lee's charts do not specify a primer with the data.

With a heavy bullet in a short pistol case, the minimum length is very important. The shorter it is, the more pressure there will be with the same powder. This is shown with the two examples you gave.
Max 5 grains @ 1.190 length.
Max 5.8 grains @ 1.270 length.
Go by the data from one of the major firms and you will be fine.
Trying to mix them up is just confusing.
