Rust

Well after a duck hunt on friday, that night i went and took my gun out of the case and i was horrified at what i saw. I have a Beretta Urika with the matte black finish and there were tiny rust spot forming on the barrel. I immediately scrubbed it down and used lots of oil, i repeated this a couple of times. Spots are barely noticible but annoy the hell out of me. Is there some sort of lubricant that coats the barrel to prevent and further corrosion. Also if it gets worse, any one know of any good gunsmiths near Brantford Ontario that would be able to refinish the barrel?

Thanks

Take the gun out of the case as soon as you get home.
I just use light gun oil (Rem Oil) to wipe my gun whenever it gets wet. Apply before you go out as well, if you know its going to be wet.

I don't think you need to refinish the barrel. Try wiping it a few more times with a paper towel then give it a good coating of gun oil. I find paper towel does a decent job at buffing out the rust spots.

I use the finest steel wool, OOO I think is called. put lots of oil on the spots and rub them with the steel wool. this will remove the spots and not hurt the bluing.

The problem I think his gun is parkerized.

The other option of course would be to get an xtrema and forget about this rust busniess all together.

I just take a can of G96 with me I wipe the gun down with a rag spray it with the G96 then put it in the case.then remove it from the case as soon as I get home.rust has never been a problem.I hunt both salt and fresh water.

I do need to pick up another shotgun for the tough weather and rain. Just have to wait till i have access to the firearm exchange here on the site.

The best way to prevent rust in future is not to put wet guns into closed soft cases. If you absolutely must then leave the case partially open so some of the moisture can evaporate.

For the rest of the time I use G96 to prevent corrosion.
