Also firearms act is federal is it not so what would that have to do with a provincial requirement??

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will be carrying a lock and keys tomorrow.
 
And so it is... the Easterners have to encase their firearms half an whoreinontario after dark while westerners can drive around 24 hours a day with a rifle or shotgun on the front seat. Shouldn't all provinces be in the same boat when it comes to hunting with firearms in Canada?

I just saw the deer it saved this morning... she was splattered all over the highway... no tag on it, and was certainly taken in the dark...:confused:

Why cant the mnr save them, but charge you for no trust?... Is it a money grab fine, that should be challenged in court?.

It's gotta be simply a money grab fine. I imagine a poaching conviction would have to include proof in the form of a dead animal and proof that the defendant killed it illegaly, simply walking through the woods with a gun in the dark probably wouldn't do it. Besides, if I was gonna go poach deer, it certainly would be with a bow.

I have to agree,.. how in the heck can you shoot in the dark?

If I were to poach, it would be by daylight... at least you can see what youre shooting at and it would be safer.:cool:
 
I just shove my gun in the gun boot on the atv.
When I get where I'm going I can guarrent no-one will pay attention what time it is when I pull my gun out ;)
 
Out here ( New Brunswick ) it must be cased befor first light and after dark. It is a crappy feeling walking into your black bear bait pile in the dark with a cased and unloaded gun. On more then one occasion I have bumped into bears walking into my stand.

Im sure you have heard the term " Deer in the headlights" It turns out it does not have to be headlights.....and Im pretty sure poachers arent' too concerned with safety.

If you're driving around after dark with you're rifle next to you ready to go and get stopped by a CO you may have so "splainin to do" even more so if you have a 2 million candle power light next to it. :D


Ive walked back to a camp or vehicule in the dark countless times as I hunt every last legal minute....stupid rule but the gun sock idea is most practical way to comply .
 
in N.S firearms have to be cased between 1 hour after sun set and 1 hour before sunrise.you cannot legally fire said firearm 1/2hour after sun set or 1/2 hour before sun rise. this gives you 1/2 to get into or out of your hunting stand/area without having to case the firearm. the fall of 2010 they changed the regulations on transporting firearms in/on a motor vehicle/atv.during the period between 1 hour before sunrise and 1 hour after sunset you don't even have to case or trigger lock your firearm in/on your truck/car/atv.
