Would like to get some opinions on reasonable optics for an SKS rifle.. Thinking something along the lines of a 2-9x variable zoom, illuminated mil dot sight.. Fairly good quality in the $100-$200 Price range? Anything you could suggest as far as things to watch out for...etc..

I would use a Choate mount and a 4x fixed power scope, something short or you will bounce casing off of the scope. I do not see a 3-9x40 surviving the barage of ejected casings. You may hit 'gongs' at 200 yards but for hunting its a 100-150 yard rifle same as the 30-30. 4x is plenty.

Optics?...why not go with a rear Tech sight and a Williams front Firesight? Its a huge improvement over the stock setup but still keeps the weight down.
