Hey guys I bought a box of cam pro 230 grain plated 45 acp bullets last week and when I was reloading I had to adjust to depth down to 1.200 to chamber properly in my 1911. I cannot go any higher and im assuming it is because if the bullet design. I even tried 1.230 and the action will not close it is about the "hood" I believe it is called when I remove the barrel. I have not had this issue with hornady 230 grain rounds. My question is who in or around Hamilton Ontario sells bulk ammo that is reliable and has a true round nose design without the cost of hornady projectiles ?
 
I reload .45auto with 230 grain cam-pro bullets. My pistol can take up to 1.275 with out any problem. What brand is this 1911, maybe the chamber is not deep enough.
 
it is a norinco, chamber is fine I have some hornady loads made with a length of 1.260. I have a feeling it is just because it is not a true round nose it has a flat point. I have read on many websites that guys are having the same issue.

I've loaded and shot 5000 of these so far.
I don't like cam-pro for several other reasons but as far as seating depth goes I've loaded and shot 2000 of them at 1.260.

On the flip side one guy at our club told me he's won national championships with them so they can't be too bad.
 
Maybe I got a bad batch , I will be measuring them when I get home, The are being seated to 1.200 , I didn't adjust the die and seated some hornady 230grain round nose and they came out around 1.235 . After adjusting the dies I was able to load the hornady to full maximum length to see if its my chamber. Which ruled out that it is not. Again I am new to reloading as you may be able to tell from previous posts. So I'm not sure what is wrong here , at first I thought it was just me but after loading some hornday rounds with the same setting it rules it that its not my setup. I have some factory remington with the same style of round nose flat point as the cam pro and they are seated to 1.200 so I have no idea wtf is going on. All over the web guys are saying they work fine while others are having the same issues. I'm thinking it is a QC issue but who knows. And suggestions? Also are Aim projectiles any good ? They are right near my house. Thanks for any tips/info
 
Don't worry about chasing a specific OAL number. Seat the bullet so that it will chamber freely in your gun and then work up your powder charge. It is perfectly normal for bullets from different makers to require different OALs, even if of the same weight and type. If you make a dummy round for each bullet type you use, you can easily and quickly change your seating die adjustment.
 
my norinco 1911 is the same, tight chamber/rifling. have to seat reloads to a shorter OAL than factory bullets which tend to be few thousands smaller in diameter. try zero projectiles from doubleTap in brampton, I hear good things about them
 
My Springfield 1911 chambers 230gr FMJ fine at around 1.25" if I recall.

With AIM 230gr plated round nose I had to seat at 1.20" to get them to chamber. If longer they would not allow the slide close the last 1/8" as described in another recent thread. The longer ones chambered fine in my Glock 21. The shape of the bullets nose is the issue, it's not the same as the 230gr FMJ.
 
Thanks for all the great tips guys I will have to try each and see what I get from every manufacture. I'm currently loading 4.9 grain w231 with cci primer at 1.200 with the cam pro. The lee book says 4.6 start 5.1 max but the lymann books says 5.1 start 5.7 max. How much do you think I can step my load up? I have 0 signs of over pressure now but it seems slow
 
Doubletap sells zero projectiles out of Brampton. They are jacketed hollowpoints not plated. I just picked up 2k 125gr 9mm for $226 taxes in. They are excellant and sell out fast.
