It looks like really old oil/something. I'd try some brake cleaner or something on it.

Glad you got it off.
Everygun from china is packed in grease/oil like that.
Most dealers clean them up some before we ship.
Varsol /paint thiner if you have lots to do.
G96 works very well also .
Case harding?? steel wool????????? Really guys ,Have a hrad night or something?

Yea some pretty awkward tips lol BUT the most deceiving response was from the actual dealer... Especially since my NP29 hasnt been processed yet

I would not suggest that, it will melt the grips....

If you are using Brake clean on any Norico gun, remove all plastic first and place it a long ways away from where you will be cleaning. Note that the mag follower is also plastic. took the grips off of mine and filed away the sharp edges. Also I put the small slip on grip with finger grooves from Hogue, which helps makes the gun much more shootable.

In 6,000+ rds I have never disassembled the gun, I flush it out with WD-40 after shooting and after a number of cleanings remove the grips and flush the gun with Brake clean which removes any of the WD-40 buildup. After which I apply gun oil and grease to the rails. Trying to get one of these guns back togethr again is a bit of a puzzle.

I agree, I do the same. I disassembled the gun once, it was a PITA I didn't need to do, wouldn't bother again.

I had that on my 2 Norinco pistols
It will be easyly removed by CLP oil or any other firearm cleaning solvent.
It will go away easy, nothing to worry about
don't use steel wool on it...
