Dominion Shotgun Shells

Odd that you should ask this question. I got back from a visit with my father a few weeks ago. He's been collecting cartridges for about 60 years. He specializes in Dominion. I think he said he has at least one of everything they ever made. He was showing me some of his collection and some papers caught my eye. They were notes and papers from an article on Dominion that he and a friend wrote for a national cartridge collecting magazine. I think it was from the 60s. The notes included the date code to translate the stamp on the inside of the box flaps to month and year. I pulled a few old boxes like the ones in the phots and they all had the stamps. Interesting stuff if you're into that.

Nothing smells better than a fresh fired CIL paper shotshell. Brings back fond memories on the duck marsh with the old man. I shot them right up into the early 80's as my dad bought ammo in bulk back when a case was 500 rounds. He still has the better part of a case of Canucks, Imperials, Maxums, etc. Thanks for the memories 58!

weird i was given a green and yellow box of these a few months ago from a co worker ... i shot one they definately kicked more than regular bird loads and smelled oh so good lol

I still prefer to shoot dominion paper shells when I hunt small game just for that smell. When I started hunting with my dad as a little kid in the mid 80's he taught me to shoot with that stuff and the smell still gets to me a little....

Same here. Grandfather bought me a new 16ga wingmaster in 1961.
At least once a year I take it and some old purple paper shells hunting grouse.
Both him and the old man have been gone 40 years plus but after shooting a few of those it is like they are right with me.
The smell alone brings back so many great memories.
If it is a two piece box they are worth bucks. I sold off my collection of vintage boxes a few years ago on e-bay and it shocked me what some boxes are worth especially the small gauge ones.
No one wants the shells but there is a strong collector following for the boxes
Wow! Nice old boxes. As above, there is nothing to compare with the smell of fired paper CIL shells. That smell brings back some heavenly times, out with my old Dad, looking for chicken and partridge. It brings back the nice little old roads we used to drive down, the old Tobin shotgun he used, of course, the box of trusty Imperial Special Long Range on the seat. I can still see him digging in the box for a couple of shells.
I am lucky that a gunsmith friend gives me the old Canucks, Imperials and other odd ball 12 gauge paper that he ends up with for the partridge hunt, been shooting paper for the last 3 or 4 years ,and these old shells and never had one misfire, imagine that!!
