The Bancroft MNR released the harvest report for the first Elk hunt.

Out of the 70 tags released 20 Elk were harvested, 11 Bulls and 9 Cow Elk .

Out of the 70 tags 5 people opted not to purchase their licence and 1 chose not to purchase his licence because he drew a cow tag and wanted a bull tag.

Did they publish that data? I heard there was more than one that drew cow tags and didn't buy them.

Can"t post a link, the info came from our local paper The Bancroft Times.

The Bancroft MNR offices phone #613 332 3940 they should be able to tell you the info you need.

Re: Those that drew tags, and didn't use them because they got cows instead of bulls ... I'm rather conflicted about that.

On one hand, I'm glad they didn't just hunt for the sake of hunting and filling a tag.

On the other hand, I'm not a fan of purely trophy hunting here in Canada. Trophy Animals are not used to the same extent as they are in a place like Africa. At least there, you know an entire village is being fed or in some way using every part of the animal.

Those tags that were "refused" should ahve been given to the next people that were hoping to get tags so they had the option to join this landmark hunt.

Hopefully they will expand the area available to hunt. I heard that there were some sighted outside ottawa...

I saw some pictures of elk on the weather network.ca that claimed they were taken near Ottawa. The person who posted them also called them moose.... so who knows how accurate the location is.

I've never seen one, but I know several people that have seen them in the Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth, Lanark area over the past few years. They are not seen in big numbers nor are they seen frequently, but they have been seen.
