Just wondering when and why there has been a change to the laws about importing rifle scopes?
Is anyone stepping up to the plate and going to challenge this?
This seems very silly to me, a gun is a weapon, not a scope. Canadians shouldn't have to put up with this. If I want to buy a scope with my money, it should be my right and I shouldn't have to jump though gov't hoops to do it!
I fully support reg guns that are retricted and as long as you have a PAL, I should be able to buy a scope from anywhere in the world.
Again a scope isn't a part of the gun that shoots the bullet. There should be no extra gov't paperwork when buying scopes!!!!!!

im going through it right now, it is a stupid rule but actually quite simple.. just get an International Import Certificate and send it to the seller.. the problem is finding a seller that will go through the hassle on their end..

Importing isn't the problem, exporting from USA is the issue. Canada had the opportunity to sign on when ITAR was rolling out and chose not to. Good luck getting anything with Tactical name of any sort.

Clinton gave creten the opportunity to be added to the ITAR list of excempt countries. Of course the lieberal **** chose not to ask for this.

So what is the deal if I buy a scope in the US and drive back to canada with it?

Some law about smuggling I guess.......
Don't be a st***d airwolf. It's not worth it.

Edit: Otherwise we would be on the short list with countries like the UK, Australia, Germany and a few others. Don't think of even trying to import an ITAR controlled item via these exempt countries. This would be breaking international laws.

Also tactical versions of scope no longer has anything to with it. The proper wording under thier laws, was dual use items. Since about 2007 even this no longer applies. They have deemed all optical sights controlled items.

I just don't understand why they need to control it in the first place?
Guns, battels is one thng, scopes is totally another issue.
Again, is there anyone trying to get this switched?
I'd gladly help him/her get signatures.

... .

Because they want to be seen to be doing something. They are in the business of making and enforcing rules, for which they are well paid by the taxpaying electorate. What those rules are is not that important to them. What it costs U.S. businesses in lost exports is not importatnt, and how it inconveniences potential customers in Canada is even less important.
