tail-less deer....genetic mutation?

Last year we had one deer on the trailcam with no tail. This year we have several different deer with no tails. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this? Could it be some genetic mutation? Or just some big coincidence that they're all just on our cam?

I think it is due to snipers that like to flyfish. They are shooting the tails off the deer to harvest the bucktails in order to tie flies. Too cheap to buy some:D
 
I know exactly what it is:

These are the deer that in their youth were just a bit slower than the others at a flat out run but still just quick enough to get away from the predators. ;)

I don't think I would say cold weather, the ears would be missing too.
 
Here is one I shot a couple of years ago.... mutation I figure.... not "no" tail but definitely not a full size one...
