I bought a TC Impact for hunting this year, I read the reviews and they were good for the gun but in the package deal with the scope the scope is not good, so I bought the package without a scope, just open sights for this year.

I think the gun will group well, ONCE I put a scope on it, the irons are pretty bad in my opinion, I had to shim the front sight up because I couldn't make the back sight any lower. It just shot too high (about 9" at 75yds).
I also find the trigger breaks way too heavy, it would be fine on a shot gun, but when your squeezing the trigger and your thinking in your head "break......okay break already" it is too heavy, I would like to see if I could get it adjusted after the season is over.

I think its an okay package, you get what you pay for and this is a $280 package. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for the price.

I dunno I have one and have no complaints, I'm getting 1" groups at 100 and I haven't really tried many different loads with it. I found the trigger to be decent for an out of the box hunting gun.
 
what load are you shooting to make her about 9" at 75yds?

Yup there irons do suck. you can buy a good cheap

Just from the comments I have seen on this gun, it looks like its a hit and miss gun.

For me the sights are pathetic, I have the rear sight set to the left by about 1/16", like I said I have had to shim the front sight up because the rear sight doesn't go down any farther. So the sights are bad, I was going to use 240gr Hornady xtp's but couldn't bring them down, I even reduced my powder to 70gr pirodex. So I went to some 330gr bullets I found at the local hardware store.

I read another post about a guy who couldn't get his breech plug out with the supplied wrench, I have no problem with that, even after a long shooting session.

The trigger was something that I was concerned about before I even bought it, I tried it at the store and it didn't seem too bad. But once I had it on the bench I hated it, I like it when the trigger breaking is almost a surprise to me, I don't mind if I have to squeeze a little more, but when I start to think about putting more pressure on the trigger its not good, it has been a distraction while hunting, I find that I have to almost jerk the trigger because it takes so much pressure to get it to fire. Edit, I took it out of the cabinet last night just to make sure it was clean, I pulled back the hammer and looked to see if there was any adjustment and I saw where the trigger catches so I put a drop of oil there, it looks like it will work better


I also read a post about someone who had taken theirs back to the store because the hood wouldn't pull back so they couldn't open it, I have just found mine 'sticky' at times.

So it kinda makes me think there is alot of variation in the quality of these guns, just hit and miss.

I ponied up a little more doe and got the Triumph with weather shield 379. at Dante in Montréal and I love the gun. Using the open sight at 50yards it rocks 0 need for the scope. XT breach plug I don’t know how I lived without it Didn’t the impact it came with a plug that required a wrench to remove it? From your comments I’m glade I did not get the Impact.
 
I found some good reading about the impact on the muzzle-loader forum on the Ontario out of doors site.
I strongly suggest the following: CCI 209 primers, 90 to 95 vol. BH powder, and 250/300 TC Shockwave polymer bonded slugs ( i.e BLACK sabot & a 250/300 grains Hornady SST slug).

My rifle shoots touching holes with such a combo up to 100 m, point blank up tp 170m. No need to test anything else.

Just to follow-up, I opened the gun up this past winter the trigger problem was a spring on the trigger wasn't seated right, I just pushed it back to where it belongs.
Another problem I've noticed it the fore end and barrel aren't tight to the butt stock, the screws are hard to access, but I took them out and put locktight on them and replaced them, its a bit better.

I have a TC Impact and I think I can do better with a slingshot.. I don’t know if I am doing something wrong or what. I just can’t get this thing to group to save my life.. I am using 2 triple 7 pellets, and a 250 Gn hornady sst sabotted bullet. Seems like the scope is shot, so I put another one on and still the same.
I’m ready to throw this thing in the bush..
I took the rifle apart because it seemed a bit loose where it hinges, there is a mount on the barrel with two little screws and a horizontal metal lip that fits into the barrel, those two little screws use a T8 torx bit, they were a bit loose. So I took it apart and what I see is that at factory they put a drop of locktite in the hole then put the screw in.. that doesn’t work! The bottom of the threaded holes were full of locktite and hardly anything in the threads to hold the screw. you can’t compress the fluid so they don’t get the proper torque on the screw to hold down the mount.
I repaired this problem, put locktite on the screw threads, it is now tight on the hinge..
I shot close to 80 bullets before and am not happy with the grouping, hope this little wiggle on the hinge point was my issue, but I am sceptical.
Anyone have any ideas if a tiny little play on the hinge point would affect point of impact to where you can’t hit a piece of printer paper?
 
Toss those pellets in the garbage get yourself some loose powder a good powder measure and start at 80gr and work your way up to find the best load.
 
I use loose FFg Black Powder or Pyrodex RS in mine. Plinking', I use inexpensive 240gn 44cal Campro plated bullets with the 'black' sabot as mentioned above.
I used a Vortex Diamondback 2-7*35 Rimfire scope for these shots.

First 2 shots with 80gn of FFg BP, was hard to compress, ram rod almost flush with muzzle. Moved POI up between 80gn #1 & #2.

The clover leaf was the next 3 shots with 100gn of FFg BP.

One thing that will make a muzzleloader do unusual things is plastic. I was told this when my TC Encore started throwing bullet every where and climbing high, after shooting it for a few years. I religiously cleaned this gun and thought ....ya right. Sweets 7.62 Bore Cleaner was recommended!!!, used as directed and the gun went back to 1 " groups just like it always does. Now it gets done once a year just because.
You can't see it and you would thinks a brush and powder solvent would take it out but it does not. Sweets or a similar product may help
