I've been buying 500 count .22 cal pellets for $5/tin. Both the flat-nosed as well as the hollow point. Havent shot them yet, but wondering if anyone has any experience with them? I want to go buy more at this price and stock up, but dont want to end up with a shiite load of crap either.

I used the daisy .22 hollowpoints last year on a few gophers at close range and they definately did the job! as far as accuracy goes I have no idea cause I never shot any groups with my pistol.

I bought a bunch of them too for that price. They are fine for general plinking, but in my air guns (Hatsan AT44 PCP and Crosman 600 co2 pistol )they are inferior for accuracy. Cheap plinking though, and just fine for knock down targets or other non demanding applications.

$5 for 500 .22 pellets is a very low price - where are you buying them?

I'll tell you tonight, after I buy the remaining stock from the one store. :D

As for the other post about accuracy etc. Its just to get my kids practiced up in the shooting and safety skills.

BTW Do I need to be concerned about shooting inside from a health and/or quality of air point of view?

I don't think pellets hit the target hard enough to produce vaporized lead particles. I'd encourage hand washing though. Sounds good enough for kids playing around indoors. The Daisy wadcutters make a very clean hole in paper targets. and at 1 cent a shot, its cheap fun.

Right now I'm using a cardboard box, filled with old newspapers that are stacked front to back. Even at 900 fps the 22 doesn't penetrate far, but will eventually chew through it.

I've heard that electricians putty, available at Rona or other suppliers is very good at stopping pellets. If you keep a single bullseye in one spot it will eventually load up with pellets and require replacing, but at least its silent and absorbs the pellets. No matter what you do, you want a safety back stop. I have a sheet of plywood covered with 2 layers of old carpet as my just in case, behind the target box.

Once again, GP, thanks!

As for where I got the pellets: Wal-Mart. I have seen them for $5 at 2 different stores. One store had one discounted, but not the other type and one store had them both discounted. I am not sure, but I believe, thew original price was $7.84 then marked down to 5.50 and finally $5.

My cheapest backstop is a carton about 5 inches thick and stuffed with old clothes. It's very quiet upon impact and .177 pellets at 880FPS won't make it through.

I've got lots of old clothes. Sounds like a plan. So you going to check out your local Walmart?

I also noticed 250 count tins of Crossman pellets for $2.50

Ask for a price check on the Crosman Premier hollow points in 22 cal. Some stores have them for some reason on the computer at $5.00 per 500. I haven't found any,but it might be in stores East of Manitoba.

I've shot at least 1500 daisy .22 flat nosed through my phantom and I had no complaints...they were consistent. The crosman .22 hollow points left a lot to be desired...I found they were inconsistently sized. Most would have to be pressed into the chamber as one would expect to properly engage the rifling, whereas a few...maybe every 5th one would simply fall into the chamber with no force greater than gravity required. Upon firing the spring piston made an audible thwomp because the pellet wasn't providing a good enough seal in the barrel to properly slow it down.

Never had the same issue with the daisy brand...so just a heads up if you're considering other pellets, the crosman ones have high manufacturing tolerances that lead to incorrect pressure in your spring piston..potentially damaging the gun over time and most importantly of all: affecting accuracy because they don't engage the rifling properly.

Daisy all the way!
