Savage MK II Bottom Plate in Canada?

I would be down for getting the magwell metal as well if you end up getting some laser cut. 1/8" or 14ga doesn't much matter to me as long as its prettier than the scrap sheet I fitted to mine :D

I spoke to the laser cutter today and getting 10 made is no problem. Getting them finished is not cheap, however. It will cost 3 times as much to parkerize each plate as the cutting and a bit over 4 times as much if they are parked and then arma-coated.

Would you guys prefer them finished or unfinished?

Awesome, that is simpler for me all around. I will contact people by PM when I have the plates cut and ready to ship. If anyone wants to buy one, contact me by PM, I believe we are not supposed to be doing any group buys or transactions on the forum.

The plates are cut and I will be picking them up in the next couple of days. I will check the fit on my Boyds thumbhole stock and post some pics for everyone's review.

Plates are done. The edges are pretty clean, with minor burrs and a small nib where the laser started the cut. They are 12ga mild steel, which measures out at 0.115" thick with the mill scale still on.

A raw, untouched plate beside the tinfoil Savage version:

You can see the nib at the start of the cut on the lower edge of the plate.

Installed on my rifle:

I spent maybe 1 minute with some 400 grit wet/dry paper to clean off the nib and burrs on the edges. It fits perfectly on my stock, holes are dead on. The front hole for the 4mm bolt is a tiny bit tight with the raw edges and needs a very light touch with a stone on a dremel to clean up.

This view shows about half the thickness stands proud of the stock:

I can now tighten the front bolt up without fear of ripping through the bottom plate and it looks much more rugged and purposeful.

I had 10 plates made, with 4 or 5 already spoken for. If anybody else wants one, PM me for details.

Wow!

That was quite the response. All 9 plates are either on hold or taken. If anyone is still interested in one, PM me and I will see if there is enough interest to get a second batch cut.

If any of the holds turn theirs down I will update the thread next week.

Thanks to all for the messages and interest. I have had enough requests that I will be getting another batch done later this coming week. Opening day for deer is wednesday, so I will be a bit busy with that, but more plates are coming. If there is any more interest, please PM me.

I have had one request for a plate to fit the .17HMR, but have no plate to measure up. The opening in the .22LR plate looks like it is big enough that Savage used one plate for all the Mk.II and Mk.93 models, but I can't confirm that.

I have also had one request for plates in stainless instead of mild steel. I have no price on these, but it shouldn't be a problem if there is enough interest in them. PM me if you are interested in stainless plates and I will get a quote for them.

An update. The second batch of mild steel plates is ordered. I also got a quote on the stainless plates and I can do them for the same price. The material costs didn't change much and I will just eat the small difference. I have only had two requests for stainless so far and will need 6 orders to cover costs. If anyone is thinking of stainless, let me know.

I'm one of the guys that asked for stainless... I don't need stainless; but it's easy to colour black if I want to, and I think it'll look cool against the black plastic stock.
Plus it's my daughter's and she says she wants pink pinstripes on it, so the stainless might even get a mirror-buffing.
So... anyone else want to change their order because I've done such a great job selling it?

lol

You could polish the MS plate and then clear coat over the stripes if no one else wants to bite on SS. ;)
